Not fussed at all that they've swapped gender and I'll be fascinated to see how it goes. Definitely won't bin it after the first episode as they'll need a good run at it.
My comment on back bedroom gamers was a cack handed attempt to refer back to Gamergate which I honestly didn't follow very closely so if I've got that wrong mea culpa.

Well I do not mind that it is an actress, as long as her acting is very good, convincing, and hopefully with brilliant story lines for her.
Anyway it looks like she is starting with a clean slate, as all assistants are gone, as well as the master's. (for the present).
We wait and see.

Maybe a bit unfair, perhaps YouTube commenters might be more appropriate a stereotype these days. :)

Doctor Who has always been a kids show, family entertainment at best, but aimed primarily at children. The original brief was edutainment, half education history adventures, half fantasy sci-fi.
It's been 12 years since the show returned, that's twelve years in which boys and girls have hidden behind the sofa at the adventures of Eccleston, Tennant, Smith and Capaldi, and they have grown up with these Doctors, grown up with this particular storytelling style begun by Davies, and continued by Moffat. Those six to sixteen year olds have now been through school, college, started work, and started families of their own. That might explain some of the drop in ratings as kids outgrew the show and fell away, with fewer new fans compelled to join in a show that their older brothers and sisters raved about.
So now we have a new Doctor, a female in the role, and a new showrunner too. It's as radical a departure from the format as it was when Eccleston took on the role and reinvented it for the last generation. With any luck there will be a whole new generation of six to sixteen year old fans drawn in and enthralled with this reinvention of the character, who get to grow up with a strong, positive female role model to look up to. If the BBC do this right, this will be the start of a run of three or four female Doctors for the new audience to grow up with.

so in a few years time we'll get "How dare they change The Doctor to a man" ;)
do you think there will be a scene where she checks herself ;) I hadn't remembered the scene where Matt Smith checked to see if he had an Adam's apple :)

Apparently Bradley Walsh is going to be the new assistant...
I don't really watch it but this will take my not watching it to new levels.
