Top 10 movies of 2008

Gareth Williams (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 24th December 2008, 00:57

Well, another year of films has come and gone, including IMO a particularly s***ty summer season. As is the tradition at this time of year, what is your top 10 for 2008?

Mine would be, pretty much in order...

The Fall
There Will Be Blood
Cloverfield
The Spiderwick Chronicles
Changeling
Speed Racer
Appaloosa
The Dark Knight
Wall-E
Quantum Of Solace

Also really liked Gran Torino and Frost / Nixon, but technically they are 2009 films over here ;)

As always at this time of year I`m glad I started rating the films I saw at IMDB otherwise i wouldn`t know what I`ve seen! Although I thought I had seen 9 films this year at cinema, but soem films at IMDB are listed US release date. In any case, not been to cinema as much as previous year, but not seen any stinkers.

Saw V 7
Star Wars: The Clone Wars 7
Tropic Thunder 7

Be Kind Rewind 8
Burn After Reading 8
No Country for Old Men 8
Iron Man 8

The Dark Knight 9
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 9

WALL·E 10

I`ve got a feeling my number 1 will be the same for a few ppl :)

I`m surprised no-one put "Taken" in their top ten of the year.
I thought it was a fantastic film.

Obviously Wall-E is up there as number 1 :D
But I can only think of 7 others that I`ve really enjoyed this year:
Iron Man
Taken
In Bruges
Gone Baby Gone (was this 2008? Seems like ages ago that I saw it)
The Dark Knight
Quantum Of Solace
No Country For Old Men

I imagine that "Slumdog Millionaire" will make it onto my list when I get around to seeing it.

I also should really add "The Bank Job" to my list, since I enjoyed that one also.

I`ll add more as I remember them :D

I don`t really have a top ten, but of the 43 films I`ve seen theatrically this year, these are the most memorable. I saw a few of them twice and missed a few I really wanted to see thanks to Cineworld`s policy of playing good films for a week and utter s***e for three months.

No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood
Lars and the Real Girl
Iron Man
Indiana Jones
Kung Fu Panda
WALL-E
The Dark Knight
Hellboy II

In case anyone cares, here`s the full list:

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem
Sweeny Todd
Charlie Wilson`s War

Rocky was released in cinema in about March 2007 so just falls outside the 2008 best movie category ;)

I only remember as I watched it on New Year`s Eve 2006 when I had to stay in and look after my mum who was ill (the joys of Oscar season and leaked dvd screeners :D ) .

My actual top 10 will most definitely change, due to a) forgetting films at this moment in time and b) there`s quite a few films that I want to see yet.

In no particular order

No Country For Old Men
The Dark Knight
Cloverfield
Iron Man
The Orphanage
(REC)
Rambo
The Cottage
There Will Be Blood
Pride and Glory

I`ve actually seen a lot of great films this year but they were mainly 2007 releases which I had watched after reading last years list.

There hasn`t been anything mentioned so far that I haven`t seen and isn`t on my "to do" list, which is a bit disappointing in that last year I did really well out of it. :D
