RE: Cyclist condemns red light fine

He says there was nothing on the road, so where was the policecar then, on the pavement!

RE: Help with connections needed.

Thanks for the advice, I`ll try s-video and see what happens.

Help with connections needed.

Hi,
If someone wouldn`t mind helping out with a problem I`d be greatful.
I`ve just got a HDready LCD telly but have a question about the connections.
I`ve connected up my xbox360 to the componant connectors, this works fine, cracking picture, however I`ve got various other bits and pieces that only connect via scart, so they have used up my scart sockets. This means my DVD player is going to have to be connected via either the composite connections or by s-video, which one of these two is preferable or should I re-work the whole setup to free up a scart socket?

As I said any help would be great.

RE: Car question - from a noob of immense proportions

Hi Haggis,
I used to have a `96 Clio and that used to do the exact same thing, just dead sometimes until you pulled that little lead on and off a couple of times, a guy that worked in Renault service told me about it, no idea what it does though!
As for the rough sounding engine mine got to around 60,000 then started to sound like a bag of spanners, just engine wear I guess, think mine was the tappets. It was a good little car though overall, eventually traded mine in for a new Clio a couple of years back.

RE: Special Reserve has gone bust!!

I paid with a debit card back in September, payment was taken long ago! I ordered with them because they`ve always been quick deliverers, wish I`d gone down to Comet now!
Will I automatically join the list of creditors or do I have to do something first, what do you think the odds are of getting a full refund?
Anyway thanks for the help, I`m glad none of you guys have got stung with this.

Special Reserve has gone bust!!

Hi,
Just got a letter saying Special reserve has gone into liquidation, checked on their website and this confirmed they have indeed gone bust. The only problem is I had a Xbox 360 on order with them and I payed for it in full when I placed the order!
While I`m disappointed I wont be getting a Xbox360 I`m more concerned about the 300 quid at this point. Does anyone know what action I should take?

RE: Those old text based adventure games...

Have a look at www.stairwaytohell.com for the Acorn emulator, I think the games including Sphinx adventure are on there too.

RE: Are you looking forward to flying in the new SuperJumbo Airbus???

I agree with sj on this on, I remember reading comments like the one`s above when the original Jumbo came out 35 years ago and that plane hasn`t looked back since. Anyway any plane that has a McD`s on board has my custom ;)

RE: R.I.P Nintendo DS. We Hardly knew ye...............

Just read on Gamesradar that the DS could be coming to us for just £80 !!! I think that should offset the PSP getting GTA just a tad!
Wish I hadn`t paid £150 for an import now.

RE: Ordering from Lik-Sang.com

Hi,
I ordered a Nintendo DS from Lik-Sang before Christmas and it got through without customs getting hold of it. I`ve since got a DS game from them again it got through without charge, suppose it`s just luck.

Hope your lucky if you order from them!

ps. If its just a game customs would only charge a couple of quid, wouldn`t they?

RE: Nintendo DS, who got one?

I went for the NDS myself, great little machine, I second most of the above, can`t stop playing the touch screen mini games on Mario DS very addictive.
Got mine a few weeks back from Lik sang, very speedy delivery it was too at about 5 days!

RE: Can you help? - GAMECUBE/DREAMCAST PAL 60hz mode has slight `flicker` in corners of the TV scree

Hi,
I have a fairly new JVC telly and it does also flicker just as you described, I tried everything I could to sort it, including gold plated scart leads but the flicker remains. I have given up now! Its not really that noticable anyway, suppose I`ve just gotten used to it.
Sorry I couldn`t be any more help.

RE: Anyone own a Kia??

I`d say go for the Clio, very nice cars, I got one from new 2 years ago 41,000 on the clock now and not a single problem. Mine has the sport pack on, wider tyres, alloys beefed up stereo etc, sticks to the road like a wine gum round corners!
Services are cheap too, £120 for a regular service bit more for a major but not too bad compaired with other makes.

Anyway hope you like what you do get.

RE: SuperSize This! McDonald`s Profits slump by 71%

I was gutted when the stopped doing Supersize meals! Large just isn`t the same, and they`ve spoiled chicken Mcnuggets by taking the salt out, nowere near as tasty now. Bring back the old un-healthy McD`s I say, after all we live in a free country it should be my choice if I want to eat heathy or not.

RE: Unknown download on XP

Thanks guys thats exactly what it is, I have eTrust antivirus.
thank God for that, my mind`s at rest now I thought I was going to end up with some horrible virus or something!

Cheers

Unknown download on XP

HI there,
I wonder if someone can answer this queston I have, for a while now I`ve noticed that evertime I use the internet using Windows XP a little icon appears on the right hand part of my taskbar(near the clock and stuff). The icon appears to depict a computer in the foreground and a peice of paper with text on it in the background.

When i click on this item a small window pops up saying antivirus download monitor , in the window itself is a message saying "downloading from FTP site ftpav.ca.com" and a percentage indicator.

If i cancel the download it dissapears only to come back about half an hour later. If a let the download complete it also dissapears but nothing else happens.

Anyway enough rambling, my queston is does anyone know what this is or has experienced it themselves.

Thanks for reading

Rob

RE: No dial tone problems

Wouldn`t surprise me mate!!

RE: No dial tone problems

Hi there Frank,
Unfortunatly we couldn`t solve the problem, as a last resort we were going to call in a BT engineer, however my girlfriend`s moving out of that house soon so there seemed no point continuing trying to make it work.
She`ll just get a new connection in her new house, If it helps all fingers seemed to point towards the line being at fault hence the BT engineer.
Sorry I couldn`t be any more help, hope you have more luck with this than we did!

Rob

RE: No dial tone problems

No, it`s a dial up connection we have, when we turn up the modem volume there is no dial tone at all . I have also checked the leads they seem fine too.

batavia, I dont think it has a network card but I`ll check just in case.

RE: No dial tone problems

Sorry forgot to mention that, yes we`ve tried 2 or 3 different modem leads. Its been suggested that we contact BT and have them increase the gain on the line but I cant see this working somehow its a strong clear tone when you listen on a regular phone.

No dial tone problems

Hi there,

I need help(again), thats all I ever seem to need these days!
My girlfriend has just bought a new pc to use on the internet however when we connected it up to the phone line the computer comes back with a no dial tone message. We then tried a laptop that connects to the internet all the time, albeit at a different location , but got the same result.

The phone line is working, works fine with a phone plugged in. We tried using the socket where the line first enters the house and tried forcing the modem to dial without the dialing tone but still no luck, I`m all out of ideas now, hoping someone out there has some!

Any help would be much appreciated

RE: TiVO on a Toys r us Cybermaxx

Ahh, I see now, for some reason I thought TiVo was a DVD recorder, not sure where I got that idea from! I was just worried that I`d quickly fill my hard drive recording TV to it.
Anyway thanks for clearing that up for me.

Rob

TiVO on a Toys r us Cybermaxx

Hi There,
I`ve just bought a 3.4Ghz Cybermaxx pc from Toys r us, Excellent machine in most respects however when I bought it the guy said you could record tv just like a TiVO machine but I think I mis-understood him. I thought he meant you could record directly onto DVD but it seems I can only record to my hard drive which I dont really want to do. Have I mis-heard him or am I doing something wrong?

RE: hard drive settings?

Cynic,
No Its only showing at 8Gb on the bios.

hard drive settings?

Hi there,
I`ve just got a new hard drive 40Gb thanks to the advice on this board, however, my computer seems to be limiting the drive to 8Gb. Is there any way I can utilize the drive fully. My system is old, running Windows 98.

Rob

RE: New hard drive advice please

Cheers guys, I think I`ll be able to do that now, my pc seems to have all the necessary cables as you stated. I was looking to spend under £50 Micoman so that deal sounds ideal, I`ll have a look.

Thanks again

Rob

New hard drive advice please

Hi ,
I`m looking to buy a new hard drive to suppliment my existing one which is almost full now, my queston is though how do I link the two together. I`ve heard the phase `slave drive` but I don`t know what that means.

Any help would be great , thanks.

RE: What`s up with channel 5?

Hi Ogster whereabouts in Bolton I live in Chorley.

I was just wondering how hard it is to mod an Xbox by yourself. I`m only a beginner with the soldering iron though, I just about managed to fit a afterburner to my GBA but thats as far as my knowledge go`s I`m afaid.

I only really need it doing so I can watch multi region dvd`s on it, anyone know whats happening with Region X which should have been out ages ago?
