Nintendo DS, who got one?

themilkman23 (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 30th December 2004, 15:12

As the title asks, who has got one of these funky looking machines.

Been looking at them and think I might buy, but I was just wondering what some owners thought of them and what games they recommmend.

Cheers in advance for any help.

Would recommend either a Nintendo DS or a Sony PSP.

I have the Ninty DS for myself and kids for Christmas, the unit itself is superb, great screens and sound, nice clamshell design so the screens are protected when shut.
The Metroid Demo I got was very good, great graphics and sound, Mario DS is a must have very addictive, Feel the Magic - avoid, Asphalt Urban - avoid, Ridge Racer DS - very good, though a little bit dodgy on controls and collision avoidance. The touch screen is wicked and used a lot in Mario DS, very nice touch. And the wireless multiplayer link is excellent (for most games you only need one cartridge for multiplayer).
Overall, a superb system.
Recommended - Japanese DS, Super Mario 64 DS, Ridge Racer DS, Spiderman DS (for kids).

Then I saw my friends PSP (and ordered one from Play Asia (link below). The graphics compared to the DS are awesome, a lot smoother, the sound is about the same, the screen is nicer and more detailed. I would say the PSP is a lot more powerful and poserful machine, though not as user friendly. More of an adult console. But the screen is exposed, so watch out for those scratches.
Ridge Racers when compared to the DS version is a lot better on the PSP, avoidance is more like what you would expect, and the graphics just blow my mind, I cannot wait to take delivery.
Recommended - Value Pack with Ridge Racers, Minna No Golf, Lumines, Screen Protector.

If I had to chose one, then I would go for the PSP, but that said, I still love my DS and will still play it a lot.

Both are available from the link below, and I have used Play Asia a lot now and they are very fast, update you every step of the way and are very responsive to emails.

I went for the NDS myself, great little machine, I second most of the above, can`t stop playing the touch screen mini games on Mario DS very addictive.
Got mine a few weeks back from Lik sang, very speedy delivery it was too at about 5 days!

What games do you have?

I too have used Lik Sang before, but I find Play Asia a little quicker.

I bought a Japanese DS 3 weeks ago along with Mario 64 and Mr Driller......

I think the unit looks very plain, but it is wireless and has a buit in microphone, the graphics on Mario are pretty sharp and the framerate is faultless but the control could have been better, i have tried the 3 ways to play it and prefere the D Pad even though you have to hold down a button to run.

The mini games in mario are great, most are quite addictive and some show better graphics than the main game itself.

I have used it to play Zelda the Minish Cap and its a lot better looking with the screen lit up properly.

Mr driller looks identical to the version i bought with the GBA SP, not worth buying again, also you play on the bottom touch screen which is not as sharp as the top screen.

Mario is the only game worth buying with it at the moment.

I also have a PSP Value Pack making its way to me from Lik-Sang along with Vampire Chronicle and Ridge Racers.

More looking forward to this.

It is the best touch screen sleek design and crystal clear sound and picture I advise you to get one they are brilliant you could go for the original Super mario or get XX/XY feel the magic a game specifically designed for all the DS benefits and takes advantage of the touch screen.
