Can you help? - GAMECUBE/DREAMCAST PAL 60hz mode has slight `flicker` in corners of the TV screen

Hi everyone!
Recently, I have noticed that when playing games in 60Hz mode on both my Gamecube and Dreamcast consoles, there is a slight flicker in the corners of my TV screen :( - it does not appear when playing in 50Hz mode. It is more noticeable in the bottom corners, and when there is a bright/light picture playing (eg. the title screen of Wario Ware or Zelda Wind Waker etc) I just wondered if anyone knew if this was normal? Or have a similar problem? and if this is not normal, how do I fix it? I am using official RGB cables on bother consoles, and the TV is a Toshiba 29V24, and is less than a year old. You can see the model here:
http://www.home-entertainment.toshiba.co.uk/consumer/products.nsf/specs/widescreen43tv-nicam43tv-29v24?opendocument
I have turned all the settings down but it is still visable.
I emailed Toshiba the problem and there reply didnt seem to make much sense:-
"Thank you for your recent enquiry. Please find the information that you
requested as follows:
The best way to use your TV when playing your games console is in 50hz.
The reason you are getting a slight flicker is, your TV is compatible with NTSC which is an American format which uses 60hz. Although you TV will recognize NTSC and automatically switch to 60hz it cannot recognize a game format which will be written in pal (ie) 50hz."
Are there any service settings which may be causing this?
Thanks to everyone in advance :)

Not sure I can really help, other than the email you got from Toshiba really is a load of complete bollocks. :)

Do you get the same thing when watching an NTSC DVD? If so, then it really looks like it is a problem with your TV and Toshiba should fix it.

Hi,
I have a fairly new JVC telly and it does also flicker just as you described, I tried everything I could to sort it, including gold plated scart leads but the flicker remains. I have given up now! Its not really that noticable anyway, suppose I`ve just gotten used to it.
Sorry I couldn`t be any more help.

My old 50/60Hz Matsui widescreen had this problem. I would get flicker in the bottom right hand corner when viewing NTSC material. It was only really noticeable when there was a light background such as white, but it was there. I could also see the image scanning on light backgrounds (looked like a feint line moving up the screen). My new Toshiba 32ZD26 doesn`t have either problem.

Thanks for everyones help. I am not sure if the problem warrants me contacting Toshiba to try and fix it, as I would imagine that this problem will be in all of there Toshiba 29V24 model tvs...What does everyone think? It is still within the one year warranty, but they may think I am being abit pedantic. I too thought the Toshiba reply was a waste of time! The problem sounds exactly the same as some of the replys, and after a while I too begin not to notice the flicker, as it is only in the corners. I think I see it more because I am looking for it (If you know what I mean). Please let me know your thoughts!

I don`t think you are being pedantic - when playing games this sort of this will be very distracting I bet. Go back to Toshiba. My Philips TV doesn`t do that.

They`re not going to be able to fix it if it`s an issue with all of the TVs. It sometimes comes down to how much you pay and how good the set is. I`m not condoning that, but it`s a fact. My old Matsui did it (and worse) and I lived with it for years because it only cost me £500 at a time when most of the 32" widescreen TVs were over £1500. My new Tosh is streets ahead of the Matsui in almost every way, but even that isn`t flawless. Toshiba TVs seem to suffer with Geometry issues so just be glad you haven`t noticed that, because you really will go mad trying to fix them!

my Toshiba does exactly the same thing when playing on any of my consoles in 60hz mode and my dvd`s in ntsc. However I bought a dvd player which plays ntsc discs in Pal 60 so I don`t get the flicker. I was paranoid at first and thought that my tv was faulty but it can`t be cos it works fine in 50hz. Some tv`s are just better at handling certain things than others. My Panasonic has flicker all over the screen not just in the corner so I was pretty satisfied with my tosh, and to tell you the truth I don`t notice it anymore.
