Anyone own a Kia??

Riggs (Elite) posted this on Friday, 15th October 2004, 07:15

Am looking at buying a new car with Kia being one possibility within my price range. It is also interesting as it comes with 3 year unlimited warranty. Anyone own one/got any info on them? What are they like to drive, how reliable are they, what`s the build quality like?
The other possibility so far is a Renault Clio 1.5Cdi (drives well but a little small).

Cheers

Traveling to Spain a lot I get to drive loads of the smaller cars. These include The Yaris,Ka,Polo,Fiesta,Punto etc, however the best car for drive & comfort without any exception was the last one I hired & that was a Citroen C3.

i have a clio... much better build quality, than the kia car range (sister in law had a kia... until it rattled apart!)

If you really are looking at the budget end of the market, look at a `deawoo; also now part of the GM Group that make vauxhall, saab, etc...

I also have a deawoo nexia (old astra shape) bought it new in 1997, with 4 years/100000 mile warranty, and its still going strong!

Buy a Kia if you like, but you`d be as well throwing it away after 3 years coz it`ll be worth sweeties.
Depreciation is shocking.
Far far better buying a more desirable make.
The Yaris will be the one that depreciates least and will be mega reliable to boot.
Better buying a used Yaris than a new Kia !

Any ideas on a Clio then? It`s just that the garage we used for our last car were very helpful (we were new in Austria and they sorted everything out for us) and they are Kia/Fiat/Renault/Alfa. The only other option in the price range therefore is a 5 month old Clio 1,5Cdi with 3k on the clock or a nearly new (5 month old 0 mileage) Punto 1,2.

I like the Clio to drive - just that with 2 kids it`s a bit on the small side particularly as we are dring an Espace at the mo.

I don`t know about the smaller models, but one of the lads at work has a Kia Sedona (the big people carrier), and loves it. We`re all mechanics and agreed it looks well built, big strong suspension arms underneath, and a 2.9 Mercedes diesel engine.

The few parts he has had to change were bought (surprisingly) at the Kia main dealers. Their prices came out better than the normal motor factors we usually use which is a refreshing change, as normally main dealer prices are extortionate.

It`s a nice looking car, loads of space, and I`d have one tomorrow. As for depreciation, buy one a few years old, that someone else has already took the bulk of the loss on. That`s what I normally do anyway, I`d never buy any car new, unless I had money to burn.

Mark. :)

You should look at the Punto.Nice and roomy for a small car.
My brother got a 1.2 sport brand new for £5800.00 about 6 months ago.
Amazing spec for the price and it`s actually really well built.
He commutes between Aberdeen and York quite regularly and he loves it.
It`s been 100% reliable so far.
We`ve all seen the way Italians drive and they love them,so that says something.
There`s no doubt the italians make their cars fun to drive in a way others seem to forget about.
I owned an Alfa 156 for 2 years.
Alfa are Fiat owned.
I loved the thing.
Only changes in the company car tax rules made me get rid of it.

I`d say go for the Clio, very nice cars, I got one from new 2 years ago 41,000 on the clock now and not a single problem. Mine has the sport pack on, wider tyres, alloys beefed up stereo etc, sticks to the road like a wine gum round corners!
Services are cheap too, £120 for a regular service bit more for a major but not too bad compaired with other makes.

Anyway hope you like what you do get.

This may be of interest - Saw an add for Daewoo in the papers saying that, because they are now part of the GM group and will be re-branding their new cars as Chevrolet, any new Daewoo that you buy in the next month (with some exceptions) they will replace in 6 months with a brand new equivalent Chevrolet model. No strings. Worth a look methinks!
