RE: the water margin

thanks for that i found a version of it on the net. but only 1:06 long though.will keep looking now you`ve given me a start. thanks again

the water margin

can anyone name the theme tune to this cult classic?

RE: Ultimate DVD Platinum

although U.D.P. is region 0 it`s also ntsc, so you`ll have to set your machine to auto, or to play ntsc as well as pal. the reason it`s supposed to be better than the gold version is that it`s a two disc set. it also contains the blue filter strip needed to calibrate your tv or projector. I found the rattle test usefull to stop vibrating ornaments "jumping" off of shelves.

RE: What`s the most toecurling/cringeworthy movie moment?

tom cruise singing "loving feeling" in top gun

RE: Who should sing the title song for Bond 20 and what should film be called?

forget the song just have her dancing behind the credits!

RE: FAST AND FURIOUS (think i have been coned)

You`ve not been conNed they are on the second page of extra features. To access them highlite the yellow bars to the right of play movie and enter. this then gives you three music videos and other stuff as well
hope that helps

RE: Converting Digital photos to VCD/SVCD

Issue eleven (January) of Digital Photography Made Easy includes an article on creating your own slide show in VCD format and also includes a copy of ulead DVD pictureShow (albeit a demo version) on the cover disc to do it with.It also offers the ption torecord in ntsc or pal and the software seems to support writing to dvd as well as CD-R. you can add sound tracks and alter things like fades and blends and they cliam a maximum of 1,900 images on the disc. The magazine is published every six weeks so chances are its still in the shops. hope this helped.

RE: does any-one know bose?

thanks andrew
you were right, on reflection i was looking for someone to confirm what i had already worked out. it`s all too easy to fall in love with the kit at a demo but it`s much wiser to walk away and then let your head think it through for you. as you rightly say for that sort of money i could get a realy good set up, i don`t need a new dvd player yet so it`s realy just a case of upgrading speakers and amp/receiver. thanks again and i`ll keep you posted as to my final choice. i might even pop over and see what westy recomends at area 450.

RE: scart leads

how about running the digibox through the video on one scart and the dvd on the other? most videos have two scarts on the back but if that`s wrong I`m sure westy could suggest an alternative!

does any-one know bose?

strolled into my local dealer yesterday and got given their demo for the lifestyle 25 II, and I must admit I was very impressed. they are even offering a trade in of £250 for any hi-fi system against it. Now to the question why is it that for the price (£1999.00) they are charging does it only offer dolby digital and not dts? does this meen that i need a dvd player with a dts decoder built in? and why so few inputs(vid1,vid2,aux for dvd and tape) although you can run seperate rooms from it at an extra cost any ideas on alternatives for around £1500 please?

RE: Pearl Harbor THX Test menu

you can also find it on the much maligned phantom menace as well.

RE: Lord of the Rings

while we`re on the subject of the beeb. Waterstones are selling their version of the hobbitt on cd for 19.99 in their sale and just before christmas hmv gave away vouchers to use in waterstones after 27th dec. The cd set also comes with the map for the story a booklet about the production and the music on a seperate disc.
its only about three and a half hours long bt I was totaly enthralled throughout.

RE: Wharfedale deathtrap

I work in one of the depots that supply the tesco stores with their fruit and veg etc. don`t laugh but tesco sneek the set into us in eddy stobart lorries so the electrical retail trade won`t know. From the packaging used to pad the sets on the pallets they seem to be coming from a sanyo factory in turkey, thats what is printed on it any way. so if they have travelled all that way "on the back of a lorry" is it any wonder they work at all. it might suprise you that nearly 25% of the sets we deliver to the stores come back again.

RE: Remote control conflicts

Just a thought but what if you move them apart so that the remote can`t see both units at once?. it`s worth a try and it shouldn`t cost as much as a pronto either.

RE: Subwoofer hum

I used to have this problem with leads longer than .75m. so it restricted were i could place the sub. I finally solved it though by spending a little bit extra and buying really good quality cable, and moving the power leads away from the audio leads so they can`t pick up on the field generated by the mains lead. Now my sub hides behind the sofa on the end of a 4m. cable
hope this helps

RE: What`s better DVD Essentials or Ultimate DVD Platinum?

Although I haven`t tried it yet it looks as if combining an 80a and 80b Wratten filter should do the trick.
These are available from Jessops the photograpic chain as either their own or Cokin filters and are usually used to correct for colour temperature shifts when photographing under tungston lighting with daylight balanced film.

RE: R2 star wars: phantom menace (what do you think??)

Having seen the film at the cinema, then buying it on video (prior to owning dvd) and finally on dvd i`ve noticed that each successive release has been "lucasised" so that it differs from it`s previous incarnation, as have and I suppose will, all the rest of the star wars episodes. I can only watch region 2 so cannot comment on the merits of the different regional versions, but I enjoyed the film for what it was, an outstanding audio experience that i can watch repeatedly without it degrading (dvd of cause)and a "bit of fun" as well. just as an after thought apart from the thx setup and demo section is there any thing else hidden on either of these two discs?

RE: What`s better DVD Essentials or Ultimate DVD Platinum?

I`ve just discovered that phantom menace R2 has got all you need to calibrate your system hidden behind the thx logo at the top of the language screen on disc one. the only thing is that you still need the blue filter. I tried it with my non thx setup and it`s ok, as the extra speakers output through the standard rears as in dolby digital.
hope this is of use.

RE: phantom menace layer change

yes i spotted it at the same place as well.

RE: dvd cases

if you`ve got one in your high street try poundland they sell FIVE for a hole quid

RE: What`s better DVD Essentials or Ultimate DVD Platinum?

I haven`t tried DVD Esentials but I can recommend Ultimate DVD Platinum, a two disc set that comes with a colour filter that you view the test patterns with. This then allows you to adjust colour, contrast and brightness. The tests are easy to do and the instructions given are concise and easy to follow. I`ve used it to set systems for other people as well and they all comment on the improvement afterwards. The sound tests got me out of trouble with the significant other as well, but remove small children and pets from the room when you do them.

RE: Snow White

i`ve bought the R2 box set and there`s no problems playing it on my toshiba at all. the second disc has more than enough extras to keep anyone happy. i had to give in after five hours of watching. all the branching seemed seemless and even the game played well. who knew disney was so huge an organisation?

RE: CDR causing Laser Damage?

I agree it`s complete drivel. thats what happens when a dvd laser reads a disc, it has to read the refected light to decode it into pictures, and how else would a cd machine play music?

RE: Trailers for Dolby, DTS, THX, etc.

I know the`re not the trailers, but if you`re after samples to show off your system, try the "ultimate dvd" series. The platinum version comes with a seperate disc to set up any system with, and it will even help you to calibrate a projector as well. I used the rattle test and saved myself from the wrath of "she who must be obeyed" by stopping all her china dancing in the cupboards.

RE: 102 DALMATIONS ANY PROBS????

it sound as if it`s your machine i watched it on a tosh 200ewithout any mods and it plays fine for me although you do get the usual disney trailers first. have you tried turning the mod off to see if that helps?

RE: yojimbo

surely though that could be said of eastwood in fistfull couldn`t it? thank for the insight though. as i do enjoy kurosawa i might just buy yojimbo.
regards kevin

RE: Oi! Hey Pigsy! Monkey!!

what`s the chance of it ever coming out over here though? (r2). if you though that was camped up what about the water margin then? especialy the bloke who could run extra fast.

yojimbo

has anyone seen this film by akira kurosawa? it is worth buying? did they realy base a fistfull of dollars on it? and is that why clint has such a strange hair cut? honest opinions please folks

RE: full circle

it seems that in the us of a where most of the studios are based the take up of wide screen has been less than in our little corner of the "free" world, and as we all know the one about pipers and tunes enough said i think

RE: I am not sure if all of these are really true but if they are, what a spooky coincidence ??

too strange for me, think i`ll go and try another more normal thread, if that`s possible
