RE: Selling R1 DVDs on the High Street

I thought it was illegal as R1 discs don`t have a BBFC certification.

RE: Ronin Region 4 `digital artefacts`

This was the first DVD I watched on my player and did not notice any defects in the picture quality - how do you have your player and TV connected?

RE: *** SPOILER THREADS *** - a polite request from the Moderators

thanks clayts - that spoiler really ruined my day.

RE: Don`t read `Unbreakable (Not long to go)` if you haven`t seen the film - Spoiler inside.

But that`s why I`m buying it and not renting it - so I can watch it once and get the shock (if there is one) out of the way and then watch it again and disect the story, plot and character development.

Don`t read `Unbreakable (Not long to go)` if you haven`t seen the film - Spoiler inside.

Well I found this out to my expense - and I haven`t seen the film.....

Why god? Why?

Well thank you very much you absolute bastard.....

I do apologise for my language - I think spoilers like that deserve a severe smighting, perhaps being struck from the registered users list.

I suppose I best go cancel my preorder now(!!!???)

RE: Don`t forget to vote people !!!

Grunt Boy - Don`t you think you have shot yourself in the foot a bit here? By using this forum you are exercising your democratic right - and so obviously you do give a "monkeys" or you wouldn`t have voiced you opinion.

RE: It`s a numbers game.............

Did anyone stock pile VHS movies in the past - or does DVD offer a better long term investment/non degredation of the media?

Alternative Endings - Worthwhile or just thrown in for fun?

I`m all for having a feature packed DVD with various extra bits and pieces, but what gets my goat is so called "alternative endings". From the few DVDs I have seen it`s been a pretty mixed bag.

For example, Ronin - a good alternative ending, shame it wasn`t properly transposed to full film quality.

Final Destination - hmmmm, how bizarre, but at least it was filmed and edited.

Seven (R1) - On the second disc, oooh alternative ending - what a dissapointment - story board, why? They didn`t even shoot this ending, doesn`t that mean something.

Arlington Road - 10 minutes of the director ranting on (like I am here) about how they didn`t want a sequel and blah blah blah blah blah.

but I have decided that alternative endings are pretty much a waste of time, unless they turn the story on its head.

Anyone else share my view?

RE: DVD-watching Counter-Strike fans ?!

I`ve only just started playing in the last few days. When I was at uni last year my housemates used to play in 6 hour shifts over the weekend - seeing as we had the BTInternet evening and weekend deal. Oh if you had seen the phone bills....

I used to think it was a bit sad really but finally succummed to the time consuming, argument causing counter-strike when i got a cable modem.

Anyway, I tend to use GameSpy to find the best servers (Barryworld, nguk and uk net), and www.gametiger.net to find my mates - it searches all the servers.

I don`t think I would want to join a clan though - i don`t have that much spare time, and my girlfriends patience is not unlimited.

I play as Mr. Whippy, and if you do meet me you`ll probably kill me as I am still crap.

RE: They sent the wrong film - what are my rights?

My mate had trouble like this, not with DVDplus. Looking at their "Our promise to you" in the "About Us" section they state

"You can have complete confidence in buying from DVDplus, because we will gladly accept back any product which you are not happy with - as long as it`s in original condition (still shrinkwrapped)and within 10 business days from the date of shipment"

They`ve got a customer services number on there as well.

James Bond

Does the Picture the spines make on the James Bond DVDs differ between R1 & R2 & R4?

RE: great new bargains at ezydvd!!!

I`ve got two R4 discs, Ronin and The Matrix. The picture quality/transfer is of the highest quality. I avoid R2 when I can as usually they are cut to shreads by the BBFC and don`t have as many extras - with several notable exceptions. Was the R1 version of the Matrix uncut?

RE: WHAT LIES BENEATH/FIGHT CLUB for 99p???

www.whsmith.co.uk isn`t responding now, I can`t even connect to it

RE: delivery From Stardvds

Didn`t you receive an email on Friday explaining the situation?

RE: DVD Comparison Sites

I can`t decide whether the sites people have listed above are actually going to each site for each query or have an `up-to-date` database on there own site. If it automatically went off and got each result everytime it was run it would take quite some time to provide an answer.

RE: DVD Comparison Sites

So if I could construct some sort of site that could search the globe, regardless of Region Code, it would be successful?

DVD Comparison Sites

Are there any sites out there that allow you to enter a DVD title and you are presented with a list of retailers and there prices, so that you can pay the lowest price?

If not, I am considering investgating the feasibility of creating such a site...

The cheapest place for James Bond DVDs.....

Where is the cheapest place to start my collection of the James Bond DVDs, without ruining the nice picture that the case spines make? i.e. Are the R1 or R4 different to the R2 cases?

I saw that WHSmith were doing 3 for 2 (Which is about £13.33 each).

RE: LG3350 And Region 4

I got the Matrix from www.ezyDVD.com.au and it played fine on my 3350, I don`t even think I had to do the multiregion hack. I think it came to about £11 with the P+P, but I have certainly had no problems.

RE: Audition - very disappointing........

This will spoil the film if you haven`t already watched it.

Talk about bizarre, I watched it on Sunday as well. It was really wierd, I thought that the DVD had skipped an hour back when he fell after being drugged. The picture quality on my LG 3350 was perfect as usual, shame about the DD 2.0 but there you go. I got really really confused in the last 20 minutes as to what was real and what wasn`t. The subtitles were a bit of a give away - I`m sure in Japanese it would have been more criptic. Also, you had to think about the subtitles. The translation wasn`t 100%. The bit about "love me only" was confusing as I thought it was a crap translation, but it was literal.

Overall, worth watching just for the little bit at the end, plus it was very tense and you couldn`t take you eyes off it - and it only cost £8.50 ish

RE: Audition ...A must see movie!!!

I`ll probably watch it this evening so I`ll give you my view. It only cost me £8.5 which isn`t too bad - even if it is crap.

RE: Audition ...A must see movie!!!

I ordered mine last Thursday and it got here yesterday (Thursday). The bloke had put `Gift` on the customs voucher and a value of US$4. I think that that is on a par with ezyDVD for speed of delivery.

Friends Series 5,4,3,2,1

I know I`m probably about a week behind you eagle eyed bargain hunters but I`ve just seen the Friends Series 1-5 Vols 1, 2 and 3 at ezyDVD for about £10 each (incl p+p), roughly $37.5 Australian Dollars!

I`m not reccommending anyone going out and buying 15 DVDs though!

This item was edited on Wednesday, 2nd May 2001, 16:46

Now I`ve got my £5 Amazon Voucher.....

What should I buy? A cheap DVD originally at £10, a mid price one I could get R4 for the same price or a more expensive >£20 one that I probably don`t really want?

Bearing in mind I don`t really buy DVDs just for the sake of buying DVDs what do people reccommend?

RE: What TV series would you like to see released on DVD ?

I wondered about `Game On`, so I emailed VCI and they told me that the first series would be released on 17 September 2001.

RE: Who should i go with

I went with NTL, but only because we live on the side of a steep hill and couldn`t get Sky coverage. When I took everything into account with the phones and everything going with NTL rather than Sky works out at about £5 a month more expensive. NTL did this deal where you get a cable modem (only 64k), the 5 TV packs and the phone line for £33. Not bad, especially as I `negotiated` a free installation as they messed up my phone installation.

RE: DISAPPOINTMENT…WHY DID I BOTHER?

Teh Thin Blue Line? That crappy Rowan Atkinson Police Comedy? I didn`t know it was out on DVD, although I agree it is really bad quality...

RE: Audition ...A must see movie!!!

Stupid question on the way..... Does this film from DDDHouse have English soundtrack or just english subtitles??
