Elephant - I`d heard Aussie R4 disks work on R2 players, is this true?
I`m OK, but the boys at work are all on Sonys (mugs).

some do and some dont. ones which i know do work are the terminator and the abyss. a good place to check is at www.michaeldvd.com.au as they review R4 discs and say whether theyre both R4 and R2 compatible.

The Cell region 4 did not play on region 2,but Pitch Black did.
It`s to do with the film distributors.Pitch Black is Universal,The Cell if i recall was a small independant distributor.

Hmmm...."small independent distributor" eh?

I doubt a small independent would have enough cash to fund the production and distribution of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy!

Had the opposite experience to Donkey with the Cell. I lent it to a couple of friends without multi-region players & it worked fine for them.
Also bought a couple of South Park DVD`s in their sale in April (about £8 each inc P&P!) that were regions 2,3,4,5 & 6.

Australian dvd`s are of crap quality, in picture and sound. So I think its worth paying the extra few quid and buying R1/R2 versions. I could be wrong as I have only bought one R4 dvd the mask of zorro.

That`s a very sweeping generalisation based on the experiences of one disc. Region 4 DVDs are not "of crap quality", and I don`t own a single one that is! All of my region 4s are very good.

The Mask of Zorro is a pretty good disc technically - maybe you`ve got a faulty disc?

I`ve got two R4 discs, Ronin and The Matrix. The picture quality/transfer is of the highest quality. I avoid R2 when I can as usually they are cut to shreads by the BBFC and don`t have as many extras - with several notable exceptions. Was the R1 version of the Matrix uncut?
