I was just wonmdering is it illegal for stores like MVC,Virgin and HMV to sell R1 DVDs.

I have just started getting R1 DVDs but I would prefer to get them somewhere else but the internet. Know any shops that sell them anyone?

Also where can I get R0 Life of Brian. The R2 version is abysmal.

Yeah its illegal to sell region one dvds in the UK which is why most websites send their R1 dvds either straight from the USA (futureent) or Belguim (Play).

You`re probably better off buying from the internet anyway, service is quick and prices are a hell of alot cheaper.

P.S.
The best place for region 0 dvds is

That URL (which will soon be removed by a moderator no doubt) points to a site selling a lot of pirate DVDs (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter etc.) and so is against the forum rules. Please read them again:-

If by region 0 Life of Brian, the original poster is referring to the Criterion edition, there are lots of legitimate web sites that sell this. I got mine from Amazon.com back in the good old days. Look for recommendations in the Retailer Reviews forum.

I thought it was illegal as R1 discs don`t have a BBFC certification.

Just before last xmas i bought the region 1 scream box set from ASDA / WALMART in Minworth (B`ham) the sales staff didn`t have a clue that there was a difference between R1 and R2. They couldn`t find a price cause it wouldn`t scan at the tills i eventually got the manager to sell if to me for £35 which he thought was a reasonable price and it was Xmas after all :))

The Laserdisc shop in London`s Notting Hill (Needham Road) sell R1 DVD. The prices though aren`t as competitive as buying over the net so unless you have to go there for a title, I`d say use the net.

Brewer Street, London W1....just behind Picadilly Circus.
I can`t remember the name of the shop , i think its Soho Videos or something (not dodgy like that you know)

But it sells R1 and R2 dvd`s, still not as cheap as Play etc, but getting there!!
