RE: Anyone found a multi-region hack for the Grundig TVD1460 TV/DVD combi ?

In an attempt to resurrect this old post, as another 6 months has gone past, anyone been able to find a hack for this, supposing one actually exists.

RE: Fire Wire Connection

Hi LBM,

No problem, I`m happy to help :-)

I`ve found Pinnacles` Studio DV to be really good, I`ve made quite a few home movies now using it and the family have been pretty impressed at the quality and tricks you can do with it. It`s got full title editing and transitions to make it look a lot slicker too. You can mix video from different capture files, and add in background music from other sources on your PC or off CD if you want to as well.

I`m about to upgrade to version 7 which has quite a few enhancements and bug fixes in it, and has improved title and transitions available too. I`d check if buying it to see what version it comes with now, as I`m not sure whether 7 is only available as a downloadable upgrade or is actually now in the box as standard.

Depending upon how serious you are there is also DV+, DV510 and DV510+ which basically add more features, but the price rises sharply as well though !

If you go to Pinnacles website they have a forum similar to this, and their are some real experts on there that could answer any detailed video capture/production questions you have too.

There are also competetive products out there such as Ulead, that you might to compare against.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Chris

RE: Fire Wire Connection

LBM,

Firewire is formally known as IEEE-1394, and I do connect my DV camera`s firewire port to my firewire port on the desktop PC.

I`m using Pinnacles Studio DV package which provides the IEEE-1394 card for the PC to do this, I believe that some of the rendering is handled by the card itself so be careful if you have a generic firewire connection on your PC, if you are using that to download video data from a camera the generic card may not have the necessary components to handle the rendering and you might need an extra software package.

If anyone has more detailed info on this subject, Please feel free to add to or correct anything I`ve said above - I wouldn`t profess to be an expert by any means :-)

RE: Grundig 1450 TV/DVD Combi. Is there a hack for this?

I`ve been asking for the same thing on this and other forums for several months now, unfortunately with no luck.

Looks like no one has developed one yet :(

RE: Region 1 query

Hi Fottys,

If your TV is purely PAL only then the picture will come out black & white and may have lines across it too.

However if its got the ability to switch to PAL60 or RGB then you should be ok.

Failing that its a new telly, check out your owners manual and see if your current TV has other modes it can be switched into.

Anyone found a multi-region hack for the Grundig TVD1460 TV/DVD combi ?

Hi,

As per the title, has anyone managed to find a hack for this TV?DVD combi from Grundig.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Anyone know of an MR hack for the new Grundig TVD3750 combi TV/DVD

Hello all,

Anyone know of a multi-region hack for the new Grundig TVD3750 combined 14" TV and DVD ?

My daughter wants a TV/VCR for christmas, but www.unbeatable.co.uk have this unit for £240, not much more than most TV/VCR combi`s so would be a good buy if it can do MR.

If there is a hack does anyone know whether it also copes with RCE ?

Thanks in advance

Chris

RE: TOSHIBA 210SE MULTIREGION DVD PLAYERS AND RCE DISCS

Hi,

I have a Toshiba SD210E bought from Leading Edge Concepts, which comes automatically as MR and RCE compatible using their no hardware mod hack.

The machine works perfectly on all regions, and in my collection I have 2 RCE disks and I`ve watched another 2 or 3 RCE disks belonging to friends and have had no problems at all.

The only thing is if you previously watched an R2 disk, then you`d have to stick an R1(non-RCE) disk in first and let it switch regions, then eject it and put your RCE disk in.

This isn`t much of an overhead at all, we`re talking 20 seconds maybe, and as my collection is 60%+ R1 I hardly ever have the problem.

Hope this helps

RE: star wars (R2) lip sync problems?

Hi,

I didn`t notice any lip sync problems anywhere in the film, and normally I`m very alert to such problems, I`ll watch that scene again and pay particular attention to see if I just missed it the first time.

I have the new Toshiba SD210E, set for MR and RCE playback, and haven`t seen any issues with it yet.

RE: DTS 6.1ES or 5.1EX software

RE: Die Hard Ultimate Collection - anyone else get a £6.99 customs charge :(

Hi Guys,

My Die Hard box set just arrived from play247, and had NO charges to pay so customs obviously overlooked this one.

RE: what retailers send the quickest dvds before their release date?

Dicanio,

My last three orders of new releases fro play247 have been shipped at least 7 days before the release date, may not be quite the fastest, but I`ve been pretty impressed at their consistency.

RE: tosh 210e,is it multi region?

Shnozzer,

you`ll find www.play247.com to be very good, they show real time stock levels and are pretty fast on the delivery front normally a couple of days.

I haven`t tried any other e-tailers with supposedly very fast delivery times, but www.futureent.com seem to get good press for service and delivery, but can`t vouch for them myself as I`ve never used them personally.

Hope this helps.

RE: Toshiba 210e - is it the one for me?

Simon,

I`ve just bought a 210e from www.leconcepts.com, very pleased with it.

From leconcepts the player comes multi-region and RCE compatable using their no chip upgrade.

I have about 40+ R1 disks including some RCE titles and most of them that there are known problems on other players, play perfectly on the 210e.

One point though from your post is that the player does not have DD or DTS decoders on board, just the outputs, so if you want DD 5.1 or DTS then you`ll need to hook it up to an amp/receiver capable of outputting these sound standards.

Cheers

Chris

RE: tosh 210e,is it multi region?

Shnozzer,

I`ve just received my 210e from www.leconcepts.com and its multi-region by way of their `chipless` multi-region upgrade. I have probably somewhere near 40-50 R1 disks and whilst I didn`t get chance over the last two days to watch them all I saw a fair few, including a couple of RCE disks and they all worked perfectly.

Very pleased with the player, sound and picture quality is very good.

The noisy drive everyone is moaning about, doesn`t seem to be an issue or not as big as its being made out to be, theres some drive noise during loading and jumping round the menu, but once its playing the film it`s silent.

Overall very happy.

Cheers

RE: Wharefdale 750s soundtrack problems

Harley/Natas,

Not sure whats going on here, do you have any feeling as to whether its the amp/receiver or DVD player that is at fault here.

I have a 750S(latest firmware rev) attached to a Kenwood KRFV7030D, and both the DD 5.1 and DTS output is amazing !

I also have 3 other colleagues who all bought the same kit and they`ve seen no problems either, no dropouts, no skips - just a good sound no matter the format its in.

I have a reasonable collection of disks, plus films that I borrow and haven`t found one yet that won`t play on this hardware config or that has audio problems.

We`ve all been very pleased with both the player and the amp.

To prove which component is at fault have you tried hooking another DVD player up to the amp or vice versa, assuming you have access to other kit ??

Is there a film that`s particularly bad, if I have it or have access to it I`ll listen to it again carefully to see if I can spot any problems, but as mentioned above I`ve seriously never had any reason for complaint so far.

Are the films that play up a particular region or is it all.

I must admit that this sounds more like a hardware issue or the cable connects setup that is at fault here.

I hope this has been of some use.

Cheers

Chris

RE: Castaway r1 release date

Cheese_McPhee,

My pre-order from play247 for cast away shipped last night, so I guess yours will have already gone or should be going very soon too.

RE: Wharfdale M5 Macrovision Hack

Educator,

I believe there is no known handset hack for macrovision disabling sa was the case with the 750/750S.

I think its only possible via a chip change.

Contact Steve of dvdchips for more details if you`re interested.

Toshiba DVD or VCR kit - can`t find any of it in the shops - why ??

Hi,
I`m currently checking out the possibility of changing my existing Wharfedale 750S DVD for the new Toshiba SD210E from Upgrade Heaven, but just before I parted with my hard earned cash I though it would be nice to try and see it in the flesh and maybe get a demo.

Now I know its brand new and may not be available in many shops yet, but I thought I`d have a scout around on the off chance that I found one.

What I found after trawling Dixons, Currys, Comet, Courts and several independants was a great big nothing - not a single Toshiba DVD or VCR unit anywhere, oh except for an old SD100E in the back of Comet store that seriously looked like it had been in a motorway pile up !!

So although I`m not interested in buying from a high street retailer, as I want the Multi-region, RCE compatability and good customer service you all rave about from HCH, but where has all the Tosh kit gone ??

Is there something I should know ??

has the world of electrical retailing gone off Toshiba or is it just a slow period for them stock wise ??

Any ideas welcome

Cheers

Chris

RE: Matsui DVD110 Sound Problems !

Hi,

The 110 I previously had played fine, never saw any issues like this, played eveything I threw at it in DD 5.1 and DTS with no dropouts at all, the amp I had it hooked up to was the Kenwood KRFV7030D.

Is it just on R1`s or are you seeing it on all regions ??

Is it occuring with any type of pattern, ie only during very loud fast action scenes, or quiet scenes or is it intermittent at any part of a disc ?

Sorry I can`t be of more help.

Cheers

Chris

RE: WAS HOLLOWMAN R2 SUPPOSED TO BE RCE?

Hi Guys,

RCE only applies to R1 disks, as someone else mentioned it was always intended to stop the huge amount of R1 material going into the Asian market and as a bonus for the studio`s they thought it might stop us too, however in the main they were wrong as 90%+ of our players can play RCE disks without any issues.

When RCE first came out, there were rumours of it coming to R2, but I believe this was just people getting excited about the technology, as there`s very litle export of R2s to other regions in comparison to R1 import/export business the studios don`t see it as a problem.

You shouldn`t therefore find RCE on an R2 disk.

Hope this helps reduce concern regarding the issue.

Cheers

Chris

RE: Sixth Sense R2 in Wharfdale 750s

Hi DSmith,

This is a well known issue with a few players not just the 750S, and is easily worked around.

When the coloured bars come up, press `stop` so that the display shows `stop resume` then go to the DVD setup/config menu, and then exit the menu, and press `Play` which will resume the film from where you left off and the bars will have disappeared.

As a tip for the future, try a keyword search in the forums to find previous posts on the same subject, there a few other posts regarding thsi issue and the 750S as well as other machines and the workaround is already listed - this might save you time waiting for an answer in future - hope this helps :-)

RE: What you got mofo?

Wharefdale 750S latest revision

RE: dvdboxoffice.com still rule

I ordered `The Mummy Ultimate Ed.` a few weeks ago now, it was shown on their site to release on April 11th, but my order is still showing a status of `On order`, whilst play247 have it in stock :-(

As you say ordinarily they`re great but these last few weeks have been terrible.

RE: Wharfedale M5 owners - please try this...

Paul or Snafu,

I presume this hack is a multi-region hack ??

Have you tried it with RCE disks ??

If you`ve had a 750 or 750S previously how does it compare ?

HACK FOR GRUNDIG - TVDVD1450 14" COMBINED TV & DVD

Hi,
Anyone got one of these Grundig comined 14" TV and DVDs.

If so what`s it like ??

Anyone know what DVD model is built into it ?

Is it remote hackable and if so does it cope with RCE ?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

RE: Wharfdale and RCE

BA,

Firstly which 750 do you have.

I believe the earliest 750 can`t play RCE disks without a firmware upgrade.

However the later 750 models with the DTS logo and LED can.

I and several of my colleagues have the latest 750S and can report that the 750S laughs in the face of RCE :-)

RE: Charlies Angels (R1) On Wharfedale 750

Hi James,

Charlies Angels and The 6th Day both have RCE.

Unfortunately I can`t answer for the original 750. I have the newest 750S and they both play fine, but then so did The Patriot and Hollow Man.

Other colleagues have a Sony and a Toshiba, and RCE raises its ugly head on those machines.

GRUNDIG - TVDVD1450 14" COMBINED TV & DVD

Hi,

Does any one have one of these Grundig combined TV/DVD sets ?

If so what`s it like ?

Anyone know what DVD model is built in, and if so is it hackable, and does it handle RCE.

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Can RCE (Regional Coding Enhanced) be defeated?

Hi Spider,

For machines such as the Toshiba SD100E that also has the same problem as you, the following works:

Insert the disc and wait for the RCE screen to appear

Press `Memory` on the remote control

Enter title 01, chapter 00

Press Enter
This should play the film! To access the extras, just enter different title numbers

For most other machines where they can be set manually to R1 then they automatically defeat RCE, but if you can`t do that then have a play with the above procedure and see if you can make it work for your machine.

Cheers

Chris
