Toshiba 210e - is it the one for me?

simon2win (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 29th June 2001, 18:55

I`m on the verge on getting a Tosh 210e having seen it advertised at Empire Direct for £181 inc VAT (cheapest i`ve found). Is the player multi-region out of the box or is there a remote hack? Some suppliers don`t specify multi-region when they quote. I`m particularly keen on it after the reviews and also because of built-in Dolby decoder.
Am I on the right track with this model or could i be spending my money wiser elsewhere?
Any info or opinions welcome.

there are no remote hacks for any tosh models. so you need it to be chipped. sorry!

I bought one a couple of weeks ago from www.qed-uk.com for about £173 (price gone up since) - I think I made the right choice, picture & sound are excellent.

You say its got a built in Dolby decoder? Mine doesn`t - its got the usual digital outputs for an external DD or DTS decoder.

My only regret is that I didn`t get a multi region one, so I`ll probably get it upgraded soon.

Simon,

I`ve just bought a 210e from www.leconcepts.com, very pleased with it.

From leconcepts the player comes multi-region and RCE compatable using their no chip upgrade.

I have about 40+ R1 disks including some RCE titles and most of them that there are known problems on other players, play perfectly on the 210e.

One point though from your post is that the player does not have DD or DTS decoders on board, just the outputs, so if you want DD 5.1 or DTS then you`ll need to hook it up to an amp/receiver capable of outputting these sound standards.

Cheers

Chris

Thanks to all who gave their time and opinion. I shall check out all the retailers mentioned. I mistakenly thought that decoder was built in. Glad to hear that the machines are living up to expectations. any more submissions or alternative players (decoder built in) would be appreciated.

Cheers
Simon
