Educator,

I believe there is no known handset hack for macrovision disabling sa was the case with the 750/750S.

I think its only possible via a chip change.

Contact Steve of dvdchips for more details if you`re interested.

Cheers

Chris

I don`t agree.

The player is a Sampo player, with Sampo firmware, so there`s a firmware hack in there somewhere, especially as the player is actually a DVE360(also known as the Digitron DVS360 in this country) in disguise.

Futuretronic are offering a `modification` for £50, but I am still awaiting confirmation as to what this entails.

Hang back for a bit on getting a moddy done : keep checking http://www.area450.co.uk for news of what Futuretronic are actually doing, once they tell me.

Mind you, if any of the Independent Sampo Network crack it I`ll let you know asap !

Hi Navs, thanks for the link.

No doubt Steve will have seen my postings with regards to the correct region hack for the M5 - SETUP and 6,2,8,3,6.

However, the one posted on the CD-Rom Guide forum is actually the old Sampo DVE560 hack which hasn`t worked for an age and a bit, and not surprisingly failed on the M5.

All people want is the Macrovision hack. Allow me to be contraversial, but I honestly believe a certain firm (NOT DVD Chips by the way) has the hack and is charging people a silly amount of money to tap it in. Failing that, they are flashing back to an older Sampo firmware, cracking it the old-fashioned way (SETUP and 5,9,0,4,1,9), and then forward flashing to the newer Wharfey firmware. This is the same firm that tried this trick with Encore owners as well - shady guys.

The contacts within the Independent Sampo Network are trying to get hold of a firmware dump of the Wharfedale M5 (version 1.7) - can anyone help out ?

Hi Clayts,
obviously we are all trying to find a macrovision hack for the M5 so that there`s no extra cost to the customer (us). But what`s your opinion for an external macro-decoder like the one they supply at www.sonel.com? I`ve had mine for six months and so far-no problems.
Cheers.

If you already have the Sonel, and it does the job, I certainly don`t have an issue with it. As you say, we`re all customers and want what`s best for us, even if it is a bit naughty.

I`m still totally convinced that there`s a hack in the firmware somewhere - we just need that firmware ROM dump, is all...

www.dvdscene.co.uk/regionhacks/wharfedalem5.htm says that the region hack is SETUP 62836 ENTER

Is this wrong?!?

Does anyone know if the Wharfedale M5 is any good? I can`t find a review ANYWHERE!
