it dont matter whether or not it was RCE as region 2 dvds are supposed to play on region 2 players.(with the exception of the "Mighty" Disney w***a`s)

I think only R1 copies are RCE`d

Dicanio, it would matter. If you have a player manually set to R1 and an R2 disk `RCE` disk was inserted it wouldn`t play would it? (it may not play anyway, but it would certainly set off the RCE code)

Remember many bods set their players to R1 when playing RCE disks to defeat this very problem.

As it is, R2 disks are without RCE code so they should play happily on a multiregion player.

yeah but rce discs are not supposed to work on multiregion or hacked players which I have done 2 mine.
Hacked i mean.
maybe we r not gonna get rce overhere or they forgot 2 include it on hollow man.
By the way its just the encoding od disney dvds not RCE cause i changed my player back 2 normal (eg.r2 defalt) but Dinosaur still didnt work so now i watch it on my rather iffy PS2.

The Dino Disk (and probably most Disn*y disks) is a player memory problem (i.e. a lack of memory on lower spec players). Hollow Man is a Columbia-Tristar title and a standard DVD format

RCE disk code is supposed to do 2 things(I think):

1. Check the region code of the player;
2. Check the player for `modification` i.e. mod chips etc. I`spose it checks for standard op codes in the firmware, but I don`t know the tech.

This is why setting the region code manually, defeats RCE - `cos it complies with the code parameters and fools the code into giving an OK result.

My Sammy 709 is multiregion - I don`t need to tell it about RCE disks, so It`s firmware must be pretty standard.

The rationale behind RCE is to prevent us lot from playing films that have not yet been released/not yet on R2 disk here - so RCE on R2 disks is Illogical (Captain!)

But when has something being illogical stopped anyone.

Hi Guys,

RCE only applies to R1 disks, as someone else mentioned it was always intended to stop the huge amount of R1 material going into the Asian market and as a bonus for the studio`s they thought it might stop us too, however in the main they were wrong as 90%+ of our players can play RCE disks without any issues.

When RCE first came out, there were rumours of it coming to R2, but I believe this was just people getting excited about the technology, as there`s very litle export of R2s to other regions in comparison to R1 import/export business the studios don`t see it as a problem.

You shouldn`t therefore find RCE on an R2 disk.

Hope this helps reduce concern regarding the issue.

Cheers

Chris
