Movies you sat through and didn`t understand

RJS (undefined) posted this on Friday, 10th February 2012, 16:18

I`m not talking about the ending of 2001, though perhaps watching all of 2001 and not getting what the hell any of it was about would count, I`m talking whole films here.

I think Syriana is the only real one I`m going to have to watch again one day and try to understand what it was all about. I got bits of it, but far from all of it.

Tbf I don`t think I got 2001 first time around, but I was young so I`m not counting that, especially as I since get it (though how much of that is down to 2010 I don`t know).

Nothing springs to mind. I do have a pet peeve in movies that have inconclusive endings though

The Fountain. I`ve seen it three times now and I`m just about at the point where I`ve kind of got the jist, but the first time I saw it my mind was scrambled. That said, the ending was so bonkers and the music and visual effects so stunning that, even though I had no idea wtf I had just witnessed, I kind of loved it anyway.

Primer.

Heard it was really good and watched it, but when it finished my head was so confused.

I actually went on internet reading theories/descriptions until I was happy though, which is a good sign (ie it intrigued me to try to understand). I haven`t watched it a second time yet though.

I`m sure there`s a few others I didn`t get, but typically can`t think of a single one off the top of my head at the moment :D

The Fountain really wasn`t for me though is one thing I can confirm!

Mulholland Drive and Donnie Darko. MD ive only ever seen once but i keep meaning to watch it again to see if it becomes any clearer exactly wtf is going on. DD is one of my favourite films and i still dont get it entirely.

Bryan

I often wonder if you aren`t supposed to entirely get Donnie Darko. I think I understand what its basically about though, it`s not like Syriana which had an awful lot of that I didn`t get at all, but presumable was mean`t to.

Mulholland Drive is just a mess though isn`t it, one of those films where there are loads of websites devoted to "explaining" it, if you can be arsed to read through pretentious drivel about pretentious nonsense from wannabe film critics ;)

As for The Fountain, we discussed that a while ago, I had hated it so much I thought I hadn`t got it, as it stood, I Had, I was right, I had understood it to be pretentious nonsense :)

Primer was quite mental, I think I was disappointed by that, remember it being confusing :(

Donnie Darko, I remember missus and I enjoyed that, I remember we saw it then went for dinner, and were discussing it, and then thought if some-one overhears this conversation about it, they`ll think we`re nuts :)

Yeah Mulholland Drive was definitely one where I went what was all that about and was massively disappointed.

Whenever I hear a film is David Lynch`esque now it puts me off!

Donnie Darko I remembered thinking I wouldn`t like because I`d heard it was weird, but really liked.

I bought it on dvd afterwards and it`s one of those ones I keep meaning to watch again, but haven`t got around to.
