Help choosing a tv

Hi,
Within the next few weeks I am looking to invest in my first widescreen tv. I dont know whether to go for a very cheap tescos type job or invest 500 - 1000 for something to last me a bit longer.
I`m looking for at least 28 inch.
Any recommendations or sites that can help me would be much appreciated.

--thanks.

RE: Brazil - Criterion edition

Is this a region 0 disc do you know?

RE: l just saw PEARL HARBOR

I was quite looking forward to pearl harbor, then when it got a panning i was not going to bother. I havent seen anything good about this film at all...until i read empire, and the comments on this forum.
So i might go and see it after all.
I`m not really a fan of the blockbuster though, i was hoping pearl harbor was going to be a more straight up realism version of events, rather than the big love story etc summer hit.

RE: Widescreen TV Question...

With the above in mind also,
Digital or analogue and why?

Widescreen TV Question...

Hi,
In the coming months i might upgrade my tv. I was wondering if you could clear up the following for me.

Why should I buy a widescreen tv?
To me a 28" Widescreen TV looks like a 28" normal tv with bits cut off the top and bottom. I seem to be getting less tv for my money.

Am i missing something here, if i dont mind the black bands at the top and the bottom, arent i better off with a normal tv for those programs that use my `extra` bits of the screen at the top and the bottom?

Or are widescreens higher definition or something?

Yours, hoping not to sound completely ignorant,
--thanks.

RE: Withnail & I

Me too.
Would love to see this arrive chock full of features!

RE: DVD Rental at your local Library

I live in the surrey area and this facility is fantastic.
They will get quite a large selection of the new released dvds, and i can order online, get the dvd sent to any local library i desire and they`ll notify me when it arrives.
I`ve been borrowing cd/videos/dvds for ages now.
Only downside is they cant hire them out for a few months after release which means you need a little more patience but its well worth it for those titles you`re less conviced about.

RE: Completely off-topic, but the new Orbital album ROCKS !!!

I`m a big fan of insides and the middle of nowhere.
Insides was one of the albums that kept my sanity during my final year at Uni.

Hows the new stuff compare?

RE: What`s the worst film ever?

Batman and Robin.
I`ve never walked out on a film in the cinema but this is as near as it has got.

RE: are there 2 b-w-ians????

Is this criterian disc also region 0?

RE: COME ON YOU REDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...and flukey Larson of course, only about 50 goals this season.

Manchester Utd, you are the weakest link. Goodbye.

COMEON LIVERPOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Star Wars - How to become a Jedi Knight ! (Not related to DVD but hey, some fun ;-)

>>>taken from www.ananova.com

A campaign by Star Wars fans to have Jedi registered as an official religion in the UK is doomed to fail.

E-mails have been sent all round the country saying it would be recognised if at least 10,000 people put it down in the forthcoming British census.

But the Home Office says that will not happen, regardless of how many people claim they follow Jedi, the religion in the Star Wars films.

People in New Zealand were also told last month they needed 8,000 signatures in their census to make Jedi an official religion there.

That also turned out to be a hoax.

A Home Office spokesman told BBC Online anyone wishing to claim their religion was Jedi would be counted as `other`.

All those in that category will be counted as one group.

"If ten, 10,000 or 50,000 people put Jedi in the `other` section of the census, it`s not going to be reflected in the output," said the spokesman.

"In the last census, where we asked for a religion, lots of people who obviously don`t have a religion put their football team.

"But it doesn`t matter whether you put Jedi, Manchester United, Chelsea, or whatever. It`s completely erroneous, it`s going to have no impact whatsoever."

RE: WHAT IS THE BEST 007 DVD?

Has to be Goldfinger.

RE: MAGNOLIA....AGONY OR WHAT ?

I rented this from the local library and curled up with my girlfriend for a night in expecting an american beauty or something (which we both enjoyed).
As the film progressed I was enjoying it generally.
On the odd scene the player was obviously having problems and freezing quite badly. We stuck with it though. After a few more sticky patches I took the disc out and had a look. The rental life of this disc had not done it any favours and it was covered in sticky finger prints and other items not helpful to the smooth operation of said disc.
After giving it a bit of a polish i cranked it up again and continued with better results.
The frog scene came and i was entertained. Then the titles rolled. Hmmm, what on earth was all that about then?
My assumption at the time was that I had missed entire scenes because of the disc problems, if only I`d have seen the whole film I thought, it would have all made sense.
But after reading the comments in this thread, perhaps i did see the entire film.

RE: Problems with pink floyd the wall (r2)

Wouldnt it be nice to have an area on the site that listed problematic DVDs, any remedies and the players affected?

Problems with pink floyd the wall (r2)

Hello,
I recently bought Pink Floyd the wall and cannot access the documentories section of the disc, when accessed the menus show briefly before taking me to the oddities section.
I have a grundig player, cant remember the model.
