ive been looking for the Life Of Brian and i know that theres a criterion version which i can get from futureent.com for £29.99. however after looking at play247 they have the film for £17.99. is this a standard version? and if so can anyone tell me if there are any great differences between the criterion and the standard version???

There are two versions, with lots of differences.

Standard

1.85:1 NOT anamorphic
Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono
Theatrical trailer

Criterion

1.85:1 anamorphic
Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround
Commentary by Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, and director Terry Jones
Commentary by John Cleese and Michael Palin
Production notes
Theatrical trailer
Five Rarely Seen Deleted Scenes With Commentary by the Pythons
Four original Radio British Ads
Documentary The Pythons, Shot on Location During the Making 0f Life of Brian

The Criterion version is far superior and if you like this film you must get it.

Hey elephant stone, if you can wait until May 1st when www.stardvds.co.uk start trading they reckon they will knock out Criterion discs at £24.99.
