Review of Angelina Ballerina: The Show Must Go On

    4 / 10

    Introduction

A family affair this features Finty Williams and her illustrious mother Dame Judy Dench. Old friend Derek Jacobi also joins them.

Angelina wants to be Cinderella until she opens her mouth and remembers she can`t sing as well as she dances. Having nearly scuppered the production she gets the opportunity to redeem herself before the end and learn a lesson about humility in the process.

    Video

Nice girly pink. Fairly average flat animation and nothing to get excited about.

    Audio

A pleasant musical soundtrack accompanies this tale.

    Features

    Bonus features-

    Angelina`s Dance Class
Real ballet positions. Filmed ballet positions. This is definitely not to be attempted at home unless you are in training!

Story: words on screen and read by Finty Williams.
Words are white on red and it`s not the best colour for trying to read especially on a small screen.

Photo Gallery-series of stills from the cartoon. This is a pretty pointless addition.

Songs-two songs from the cartoon can be accessed here.Ditto the pointless addition. These songs have very little merit.

Angelina`s website-link can be used in computer with modem.

The menu is fairly easy on a large screen but problematic on a smaller television that might be used independently by a child.

    Conclusion

It is a suitably moral tale for your young ones but I`m on the side of telling them to stuff the show if you can`t get the right part. Whoops I didn`t mean that. It`s a fairly dull story with static animation and no match for Nemo and Woody.

Angelina seems quite popular but I cannot get my head around this pointy-faced heroine. There is something definitely rat-like about these characters and they are particularly un-endearing.

This is something for the little girl or boy in your life who might just want to be a ballerina. The extras are definitely geared towards a child already taking ballet lessons. The story is a nice addition but I was annoyed with the white on red background that made it difficult to read on a smaller television. The episode is quite long for younger ones to watch. One for the fans only.
