Review of Cult Kids Classics 2

Introduction

As well as churning out discs containing whole series of classic shows such as Chorlton and the Wheelies, Jamie and The Magic Torch and Dangermouse, Pearson TV have also been putting out compilations such as this one. It features eight episodes from six different shows (including the three mentioned above), and runs for just over two hours.

Video

The episodes on offer here were made between 1978 and 1993, and all are in full frame. The actual quality varies slightly according to age, but even the oldest episodes still look fairly good, and have survived pretty well.

There aren`t really any ground-breaking visuals, but you will see some very cheap video effects on the episode from The Sooty Show.

Audio

All episodes are presented with their original soundtracks, and all of these usually sound as good as can be expected. There is some distortion evident in a few places, but everything sounds good for the most part.

Nothing really ground-breaking about the sound either, although it is good to hear the vocal talents of David Jason (as both Dangermouse and Count Duckula), Brian Trueman (who also appears in both shows) and Terry Scott, who made a great Penfold.

Features

There is allegedly a game for PC DVD ROM owners, but since I am not one of them, I can`t say any more than that.

Conclusion

A cracking collection of nostalgia. Worth it for Dangermouse and Duckula alone (and the voices of David Jason and co). There are so many jokes that you would have missed as a child that are still funny now. Some of the stereotypes may be a bit politically incorrect, but these were shows for children made between 10 and 20 years ago.

Rainbow is just as you remember it, and I`ve covered Jamie and Chorlton in my reviews of the whole series on DVD. The only let-down is the episode from Sooty, which is a bit rubbish.

Recommended for nostalgic types everywhwere.
