Ah well, people will just start downloading stuff illegally on an even larger scale now. Serves the greedy f***ers right.

Contrast the views:

BPI CEO Geoff Taylor: CD-Wow had undermined "the legitimate businesses of UK retailers and record companies. The vibrancy of British music depends on a fair return on the investments that allow British talent to shine. This decision is an important step in ensuring that British music has a bright future."

CD-Wow CEO Henrik Wesslen: "It shouldn`t matter whether we are buying from an official distributor in the UK, Europe or the Far East, what is important is that we are buying legitimate products from the record companies themselves."

What the frig happened to the Global Economy that everyone`s been talking about for the last 10 years or so? It`s not as if the CDs provided by CD-Wow are illegal copies, they`re legitimate product sold by the same companies who have sued them.

The whole thing stinks.

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...

And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

What concerned me (And i dont often use CD-Wow) is this part;

Quote:
it had already obtained a freezing order against CD-Wow, meaning that all of its assets and bank accounts are frozen.

If they freeze their bank accounts, how are they going to continue trading, aren`t they now effectively bankrupt as they can`t even sell stock (not that they have stock to sell, seeing thats been frozen too!).

Shame, hope they dont go..

Bah, just ordered a DVD from them today, hope this debacle doesn`t affect it.. I know that when I got the order confirmation e-mail it said:

"We are currently undertaking certain changes here at CD WOW! and are unable to issue confirmation in respect of orders placed.

We expect to resume normal operations shortly"

I`ve only ever made about 4 orders on CD-Wow, and only bought 1 CD from them, but this infuriates me purely on principle. It`s a ridiculous situation.

Are cd-wow that cheap anyway though?

It`s obviously outrageous to go against them for selling real dvds cheaper, but I never noticed them being particulary cheaper than Play.com for albums. £8.99 the average price for a new normal cd on both sites I seem to remember?

Well I think there CDs are about £7.99 or £8.99 on average, but quite often they sell them off REALLY cheap. The DVD prices are usually pretty uncompetitive now though.

I haven`t used them for a long time (although my fiance did order a DVD off them yesterday. I don`t want to see them go under, because they are a decent company - but I just can`t believe they have let it get that far.

It reminds me of the Lik Sang vs. Sony thing a while ago. i.e. Lik Sang were selling official Sony PSPs etc "outside their jurisdiction" Sony kept threatening to sue, Lik Sang carried on it went to court, Lik Sang now no longer exists :(

years ago didn`t Levis get upset with Tescos selling their jeans cheap. saying that buying jeans you won`t get an "expert opinion" telling you about the jeans, and the different fits etc nothing to do with the brand being devalued and losing their "cool" rep by being seen as a cheap brand ;)
