People are innocent until proven guilty, naming people who are protected by law until found guilty by a court can (as Si pointed out) potentially prejudice a case.
Let's be careful out there!

Agree.
If not only charged but successfully prosecuted then said person deserves all the ire you can bring, whoever they are...

Appreciate the reminder and your need for it running this site but I don't think 'Musings' overstepped any mark.
Regardless of who it is that's implicated in this case I do regard it as a failure on Johnson and co's part not to withdraw the whip.
Virtually any other employer at a similar level would suspend on full pay at least until the investigation was over.

Hi all.
Appreciate sensitivity over this, and fair enough if thread was deleted, but no-one was accused of anything here and the arrest wasn't even mentioned or referred to. It's mischievous, yes, but libellous or prejudicial, that's a bit of a stretch.

"but libellous"
Sorry that was the only limited standard email I had that seemed remotely appropriate!
Also it was only a matter of time before the name mentioned in the thread was linked to the case in a post, which is always a risk.

Hey, I really don't blame you for deleting the thread and I was never really worried about any libel threat it was kind of meant as a genuine bit of mischief. I've no idea of who was arrested any more than any of the other social media speculators.

I get the first bit, but you just never know what might be grasped by solicitors to claim prejudice and trial by the court of public opinion.
It's both to protect the defendant and the accuser, which I think is fair.

Here or in your country. Can someone fill

Hi Brooky,
Here's the news link on the BBC website.
Before you comment, I know in all likelihood that the name of the suspect has been published in news services outside of the UK, but it's still inadvisable to discuss the suspect's identity here.
