Bum.
I reckon about 80% of the hordes of people in Aldi today weren't wearing masks. It's lucky the virus can't get them until tomorrow when the mandate comes back into force.

Nobody in the co-op earlier wearing a mask, apart from the staff. Usually I'm not the only one, but today I was the only one. I'm glad they are making it a proper rule again because so many people were taking no notice.

No direct info yet but supposedly the compulsory mask thing applies to Hackney and Private Hire taxis. Not sure yet if it applies to drivers but I can guarantee if I enforce it for passengers I may as well switch the cab phone off for the duration because I'll be taking very few people anywhere.

If it was a game I would reset, go back 20+ months and shut the borders tight both ways and we would be in a much stronger position now

Which is what Aussie did but where are they now.
You kind of need a level of risk to drive the take up of vaccinations.
Seems to me that Australia has a low take up rate for the jab as nobody or very few got it but then your in a closed society with very limited contact beyond your borders.

You also stretch people to breaking point, we haven't seen the same level of 'resistance' in the UK that we've recently seen in Australia, NZ or the Netherlands, for example...

Australia I think is a bit more like USA though, different rules/laws for different states, so some areas have had super strict lock downs, others it was business as usual for quite a while. I remember friends over their moaning how the govt was dragging their heels about offering vaccinations.
My uncle there now has both jabs, just as similar age ppl, and younger here have had their boosters, his office has been divided in two, and has a rotation of week at home week in the office so only half as normal are in, which seems off to me, but he's most annoyed about missing out on playing golf!

This is worth a read
If you don't want the whole individual story skip towards the end which is the first time I've read anything addressing why Covid may take one fit and healthy person but not the one stood next to him.

It is very easy (I'm guilty of this) to think, well I'm fit and healthy it won't affect me. I've warn masks in shops/etc since last year, and not exactly spent much time in eating places or going to shows, but I have done all of those things and not worried.
But also I've known super fit and healthy people get it and be floored by it. So far I'm grateful I've not had it (knowingly anyway), and looking forward to getting my booster just as soon as they let me.
