Of the reasons suggested that it was a failure was dodgy info being deliberately leaked to the Russians by double spy Greville Wynne. He admitted/floated the fact in his autobiography which I read many many years ago.

Anyone who doesn't groan when they get out of a chair and can remember what they went into the next room for can Google Greville Wynne.

Never liked the Concorde from the beginning as it was an elitist plane, only for the mega rich and famous to fly in, as the price for a ticket was way above the average wage earner. Was glad when it was withdrawn and finished up.

Yeah, I hate all sports cars that I can't afford and all art that is sold for millions.
I can't appreciate any of the amazing things in any of them because they're not available to me and are elitist.

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

I think it's a real shame that there was never any successor to Concorde. Much like there was no replacement for the space shuttle, I feel that governments have gone backwards with our wish to push human boundaries.

It's the new tech millionaires that are going to be the pioneers building the spaceships, driverless cars and renewable energy infrastructures with little help from the Trumps and Mays of this world.

I remember as a kid seeing all the futuristic mock-ups of the space shuttles that were going to be built 'in the future'... now all those space shuttles have been and gone. Trump's building a wall though, so that's good.

I just have this mental image of all the illegals waving to the construction guys as they walk through an ever decreasing gap for the next 20 years.

Concorde. One of the most beautiful planes. Up there with the Lockheed Blackbird and Spitfire.

Blackbird was needed for spying on the Russians , Spitfire was needed to win WW2, Concorde...well, was not really necessary at all, just a rich plaything, only for a select few to use.

Technology wise though The idea of fast Mach2 travel was good, but due to the excessive fuel used, it was never hiked up to large scale planes for mass transport carrying Joe public.

In fact the future of air travel will most likely be to reduce fuel use, and end up back to Zeplin type balloon craft that will take two weeks to get from UK to Qz
