I joined then as I needed a regional hack for a Kenwood DVD player I think! my very first DVD player. those were the days....

That will be your MyReviewer profile, your forum one has your original date! Welcome back!

At some point I'll sort it out so it syncs up the dates between the two, when I get time. :(

Will the Tories win the next election? Have the Romanians come yet? Is our Children's education less important than a cheap holiday (taking them out during term time) Just throwing out there

You may have opened up a can of worms there :).

I think if your kids normally attend regularly then the odd holiday here or there won't hurt, family time, exercise, the possibility of learning about another culture are just as important as being at school, especially when they are small IMO.  Also, school is not actually compulsory for children, education is compulsory and the option is there to home school or arrange a part time home/school education schedule, I don't see how they can allow these options and then say "but you cannot take time off for a holiday ever."

Many parents who are unable to take time off during school holidays and by banning all term time holidays you are effectively saying that these children and their families can never have a family holiday, of the 20ish people at work, nearly 3/4 of us have school aged children and or younger siblings still at school, or are students at college or university.  We cannot all be off work at the same time or the store would have to close which would eventually close down the business, and the school holidays also coincide with times when our store sees an increase in trade and therefore they have to restrict the number of people they allow off work during these times.  If you have two parents needing time off together to add into the difficulties of actually getting school holiday time off, it must be even more difficult.

I feel it is also worth mentioning that if a parent asks for permission to take their child off school during term time to visit close family abroad (including grandparents and aunts and uncles) or for religious festivals, this is usually allowed (or at least it is down here), for up to a month in the case of visiting your relations.

I believe that everyone should have the option of taking a holiday together if they can afford to, and I think schools should allow a certain amount of time for this per child, providing that their general attendance is good.  My daughter doesn't take time off of school normally, but if I don't get given time off in the school holidays I will take her out of school for a holiday.
