RE: The Self Destruction Of Manchester United This Season

See your point Interesting quote from the BBC "This time last season, David Moyes' Everton had 48 points from 29 games, having scored 46 goals & conceded 35. This season, David Moyes' Manchester United side have 48pts from 29 games, having scored 46 goals and conceded 34 ..." slight improvement then!

RE: The Self Destruction Of Manchester United This Season

"I don't think that was the problem" I disagree Rob that is exactly the problem. Everybody has to win their first something doesn't apply to arguably the biggest club in world football. (and that is coming from a Liverpool fan) A club who just won the Premiership at a stroll. If Alex Ferguson was still in charge and these same results were replicated. He could at least convince the players and fans that with his proven success he can turn it around. This is the sole reason Arsene Wenger can go so long without winning anything. How can somebody who has not won anything who's only claim to fame is finishing above Liverpool a few times albeit on a limited budget, be qualified for the plumbest job in Football? It looked a stupid appointment at the beginning of the season and it looks even worse now.

RE: Alan Pardew headbutted footballer

He got off lightly, he has form and he still gets a slap on the wrist albeit a financially costly one. Football is a hypocritical game. I heard no hue and cry when he did it. Suarez bit a player and he was vilified in the press and everywhere (he was treated in the same manner as a child killer) Even the Prime Minister stuck his oar in. Amongst the reason for the lengthy ban was he was expected to be a role model. Even more a manager (a leader of a team and club) who should be expected to lead by example. He should have at the very least been banned for the same 10 games ban Suarez got.

RE: The Self Destruction Of Manchester United This Season

You're not missing any such interviews. He hasn't given any. I'm wondering whether he has left the back door ajar. For a "messiah-like" return should the Moyes thing not work out. The ego of the man. Fergie announced his retirement at strategically the right time. When "better" replacements Guardiola, Mourinho , Ancelotti to name a few had already "made plans" If things truly go tits up at Utd Fergie is majorly to blame.

RE: The Self Destruction Of Manchester United This Season

Liverpool fans generally have a great deal of patience with their managers, not so with Hodgson never really knew why. Maybe because he came across as being too cautious. With Rodgers the luck he has is we have not done well for some time. He has inherited a team that has for sometime finished well off the pace of the league leaders sometimes as much as 30 points off the top. They have come to realise that it will take time to get back to the apex of English football. Why fans have no such patience for Moyes is that he inherited a club that is already at the apex for English football!

RE: The Official Liverpool 2013/14 Season Thread

The Problem is that Rodgers Stubbornly insists on them playing the ball at the back. So all an opposition team has to do is press up the pitch (ironically the way Liverpool play when the opposition have the ball) Which gives them less and less space to move the ball. Mignolet does not know whether to "Stick or Twist" and then they panic into making a decision often the wrong one and get into an almighty muddle. Toure kept gesticulating to his team mates, the crowd and himself to calm down! which would have been funny-if it weren't! I think we are going to have to accept our defence frailties and bunch up like we did against Arsenal and Everton and have Sterling, Courtinho, Henderson and even Suarez helping out by covering the back four, until the end of the season and fix the defence then, as my heart cannot take the stress it is currently under.

RE: The Official Liverpool 2013/14 Season Thread

Howard is a Pompous and arrogant little Sh*te. I think Rodgers should have laid into him. Got his £8,000.00 ready. We would have organized a whip round. Whatever our polorised view Rob, Sj and myself. At the end of a enthralling game with two entertaining teams. The referee should not be the talking point. He looks at himself as a refereeing "superstar" and it shouldn't be about him.

RE: The Self Destruction Of Manchester United This Season

I know. Slightly worried now. This is getting a bit stressful. Remind me again why I like football!

RE: The Official Liverpool 2013/14 Season Thread

We were amazing yesterday. As soon as Skrtel scored the second the Anfield crowd sense blood and the roar could be heard all over Merseyside. It was deafening. You could see the Arsenal players trying to think and remember whatever game plan  they had. You sensed that half time could not come quickly enough. What impressed me the most was Liverpool's shape, when they didn't have the ball there were two banks of 4 tightly close to each other making it difficult  for Arsenal to see a way through, Suarez, Sterling and Coutinho were defending from the front! Coutinho was my man of the match arguments could be made for Skrtel and Sterling also.

RE: [VIDEO] I'm going to hospital today

Just seeing this thread now. (I have been away) God's blessing to you and stay very strong!

RE: Cameron's porn filter way more than a porn filter

You reckon this is good news? Who determines who goes on this "whitelist"? Government? Commissions? Censorship starts with good intentions
This filter idea is a stupid one that people will circumvent and will have the courts overturn with time. The internet cannot be controlled. It's too late. All we can do is educate people on how to use it responsibly and help parents on controlling internet use of their own kids. Like everything Cameron says he will say it for immediate popularity, and then hope that people will forget how impossible the actual implementation is. Remember the Immigration lorry?

RE: The Official Liverpool 2013/14 Season Thread

I disagree with you Sj on several points. First looking at the defence, we have not had a settle back-four all season. Injuries to different players at  different times is the main cause. Johnson has not had a "truly terrible" season. He has played very well at the back and going forward. Liverpool have not defended well as a team. Henderson Gerrard and Lucas. Have all made defensive contributions, Lucas and Gerrard have missed games too. The reason we concede too many goals is not necessarily the personnel. Rodgers is playing free flowing football geared towards scoring more than the opponent. I also dispute the assertion that we have conceded more goals as a result of more defensive errors than any other team. ALL goals are as a result of defensive errors. And we don't have the worse defence in the leagueWe lie in fourth we have been in the top four for every week since the season started bar maybe a couple. We must be doing something right. Neutrals are finding the style of football we are playing as attractive and entertaining, as any team in the country. The glass is definetly half full for me. Comparing a result to how other sides have got on IS exactly best way to judge, as it highlights the pitfalls all the title hopefuls are experiencing. Chelsea quite easily beat City tonight, and doing so completed the double over them. City are still above them as result of performing better against everybody else, except Chelsea. As for investment in players. Dalglish wasted £100 million. As we are not bankrolled by a Sheik or Oligarch we cannot do that every season. I sill don't believed we missed out on that much as Spurs have packed their whole side with our allegded targets and look at them now. Spurs best players this season are the ones that were already there. We are not there yet but quite frankly neither is anybody else!

RE: The Official Liverpool 2013/14 Season Thread

A Point gained or Two dropped?
Two things. 1. The MISTAKE Rodgers wants us to play from the back and this is the drawback of playing this way. We have been doing it all season and to get to Feb and it just backfiring now is actually quite impressive and lucky! Also I think you cannot say it was 2 points dropped. More like a point gained. Why? West Brom drew with Arsenal & Everton at home Chelsea and Spurs away and beat Utd at Old Trafford. So come May if we don’t make Champions League football we cannot look back on this single game and say this was the defining moment when all our rivals performed the same way against this very team. Fans with short memories, remember the same defence played brilliantly against Everton less than a week ago. To err is human..

RE: The Official Liverpool 2013/14 Season Thread

Great atmosphere at the game. Liverpool fans in great voice. Favourite chant aimed at Martinez "are you Moyes in disguise"

RE: Motion sickness in video games

Does it happens with films as well? I felt ill after watching Cloverfield! I don't like watching documentary style films like Blair Witch and Chronicle, the latter was a quite a good film

RE: The Official Liverpool 2013/14 Season Thread

Oh well there's still the top four to play for....

RE: [VIDEO] Remake of Robocop coming to a cinema near you

You know you are OLD when a "modern classic" like Robocop is being remade It seemed like it only came out yesterday! Where are my slippers....

RE: [VIDEO] Eyeball floaters

While we are on the subject of Opticians Why haven't they come up with 3D prescription glasses rather this situation of wearing two pairs of glasses at the cinema? Don't mention contact lenses because it not an option on the table!

RE: The Self Destruction Of Manchester United This Season

The one thing Wenger hasn't factored though is that Mata might not care so much when playing against City or Arsenal, especially if he realises that helping his team beat either or both teams will hand the title to Mourinho and Chelsea.

RE: The X Files on Blu-ray?

I remember paying about that much too and that was after buying some seasons on VHS still got them in the loft-#I know I know I must clear out that stuff..... It was the booklet opening type. They later brought out a cheaper £30.00 version. Which p*ssed me off at the time. Might go for the BD if it is much better than the DVD version. Has to be much better though.

RE: The Official Liverpool 2013/14 Season Thread

I agree,  I was at the game and there is no way Suarez could have stayed upright. Whether there was enough contact to warrant a penalty is up for debate but calling it a dive is unfair. As for Stan Collymore No death threats, racial or homophobic abuse please. His just a straight forward spousal abusing (open hand remember) pr*t that's all.

RE: The Official Liverpool 2013/14 Season Thread

Not too sure about Salah though. I think that As fans we like the idea of some "exotic" player been brought in and the disappointment of some rival "pinching" them from under our noses but I not too sure about how well he would play in a Liverpool shirt in this country. Remember we "missed" out on "Willian" twice! first to Spurs and then Chelsea. On closer inspection I can say we really missed out on him-not! Then there's Eriksen, Sigurdsson, and Lamela. LOL. Salah has been dubbed "the Egyptian "Messi"" (probably by his agent! The same person who "linked" him with Liverpool so that Chelsea could take part in a bidding war (with themselves) and up the price. Rodgers may unearth a couple of gems like Sturridge and Coutinho who are MILES better than those mentioned earlier and that will do me.

RE: Hi All I have been away from this site for a few years..

Though fluff_n_stuff has an articulated view on the need to take children out of school during term time. What happens when all parents start giving justification to take their charges out of school just because so and so took their's out. Some will just do it so they can get their "entitlement" Abuse is my major worry and so are the problems mentioned by SJ. See your point fluff_n_stuff though.

RE: Hi All I have been away from this site for a few years..

Thanks for the welcome back guys I hope you are all well
Liverpool fans do you reckon our boys will make it this year? Fourth place that is? Are we fed up with Mourinho yet ? will the "Break glass to use Alex Ferguson" happen anytime soon? Will the Tories win the next election? Have the Romanians come yet? Is our Children's education less important than a cheap holiday (taking them out during term time) Just throwing out there

RE: Roll call time !!!!!!!!, Have you changed your user name ?

Reporting in after many years away. Some of the user names are so familiar I like whoot came here around the same time (circa June 2000) for a region hack for a Kenwood DVD player (it didn`t have one and had to be chipped!!) then a single DVD could cost as much as £30.00! boxset over £100.00 had a lot of lively debates.Thinking back now lunch hour was much more fun than it is nowadays( I`m now normally working during my "lunch hour" the price of supposed seniority!) Glad to see the liverpool boys are still on this forum what do you guys think of the second coming of the Messiah? Good win for Spurs btw

RE: Going Shopping in NYC next week - any recommendations for ridonkeylous bargains??

Quote:
the actual law in NY has changed, any item of clothing under the value of I think $130 is tax free anyway

Since When?

RE: Going Shopping in NYC next week - any recommendations for ridonkeylous bargains??

I think you`ll find that the savings is 11% but it is well worth it it works out roughly as the sales tax you would have been charged on anything you see in the store (it`s a bit irritating that the price you see isn`t the one you pay in America) Macy`s is mainly for clothes though another place where you could get bargain clothes even cheaper that Macy`s is Century 21 right opposite the site of the World Trade Centre, good for coats and Jackets and designer clothing
One bit of advice get a one week mass transit card (Metrocard) it`s very cheap and it means unlimited travel on both underground and bus which the best way to travel around New York

HP Laser Jet Colour Printer 4500-4550 Free Cartridges

My Company is having a clearout and we have discovered that we have 15 Cartridges worth several hundred pounds for the above printer(s)
the items are:
C4191 Black X 5
C4192 Cyan (Blue) X 4
C4193 Megenta (Red) X 3
C4194 Yellow X 3

We have since changed the printer rendering them useless to us

Now anybody who wants them has to fulfil two conditions
1. be responsible for collecting them (we are in central London)
2. make out a cheque to Cancer Research Uk for £50.00

Cannot say fairer than that! ;)
