12 year old girl, staying at her grandmother`s house, while the grandmother is on nights, with the grandmother`s 37-year old (9 years the grandmother`s junior) partner, being the only adult there. Body found in the house after a week. The Grandmother subsequently geing the spearhead of the `find Tia` campaign

Not to cast any aspersions, but that`s a F***ed up situation, in every regard

UPDATE: they`ve arrested the boyfriend

Knew there was something odd the moment they talked about no CCTV evidence or witness statements from the buses to where she was supposed to be going.

Also very odd to publicise that they were talking to the same squad of detectives that dealt with the Shannon Matthews case...

My parents are having trouble getting their heads around the grandmother being 46.  The granddaughter was 12, meaning Grandma was 34 at the time Tia was born.  She must have only been 16/17 when she had Tia`s mother, if Tia`s mother was street-legal when she had Tia.

Not offering any sympathy for the accused, but what would it do to your head finding yourself a step-grandad in your thirties?

You can legally be a grandparent aged 33 (aged 16 + 9 months X 2 generations).

They`ve arrested the grandmother and a 39 year old male in addition to the boyfriend.

I know you can be a grandparent legally at 33, but is it necessarily a good idea?  Given that society gives so much importance to childhood, that modern adults can be so totally immature and we have such a cult of youth in society, isn`t it odd that the caveman prerogative to breed is still so strong?

My parents had me in their early thirties.  They`d both left school at 14, and felt "grown up" at that point.  They in turn had been born in their parents` early thirties.  Both my grandfathers survived the trenches of the first World War in their late teens.  People matured early last century, but they were in no hurry to breed.

Is it a good idea? Probably not, and I would hazard a guess that one, if not both sets of pregnancies were not planned. Does this mean that society should not allow it? Or if it does treat crimes committed any differently? Of course not that would be ridiculous. Therefore, I`m not sure I understand your point.

Slightly off topic, I haven`t been posting much lately due to work commitments but have been lurking and noticed that you are , IMO, turning into the new Paull. A lot of your comments seem to be wildly different for the sake of being wildly different. Not trying to start an argument, just an observation I have made.

I kind of do, but I have to hold my tongue when it comes to matters like this. My Mother had her first child (my older brother) aged 19. My Older sister her her first child just before her 18th birthday, aged 17. Although my brother was older, my sister was the first to have a child, making the birth-to-grandmotherhood count a humble 36, just 3 years more than the number I mentioned earlier, and two more than the grandmother in this sad, sorry tale.

That was then, Miss Ella, and this is now. It`s societal evolution and we, as a culture, are beyond this. No longer can we justify children having babies by saying `That`s how it always used to be`. It`s what separates us from indigeous tribes who regarded the onset of maturity (puberty) as the beckoning of adulthood and the abandonment of childhood, leading to marriage and pregnancy at age 11.

Let`s not beat about the bush. PC be damned. We can see with clarity the type of community this awful crime has happened in. Low income, low acheivement, low academics, low prospects, No impetus whatsoever to `better yourself`. I grew up a stone`s throw from a community exactly like this, I s*** you not. I was only saved from a similar fate by loving parents who put themselves through hell so I wouldn`t end up a dole-scrounging ne`er-do-well, and I think I`ve turned out OK.

These people are (forgiving their situaltion), trash, and they bring up children to believe that no matter how hard they try, they will amount to nothing, so why bother? Get pregnant at 13, get yourself a flat and live off the rest of the country until you squirt out enough kids to keep you in benefits until your 40-a-day habits pushes you off this mortal coil. They`re also the first to come out in a show of `community`, with a group of people they never spend the time of day with unless it`s to feel better about themselves. Again, I speak from personal experience

Did Tia have this mentality? Oh god, i hope not, I`m an atheist, but I pray she had better things in mind for herself.

I`m not sherlock, but I can hazard a very shrewd guess as to why she died;

The night she stayed over with a 37-year-old non-relative, who covered up the fact she died on the night she was in the house alone with him, and was hidden from the criminally inept police force for 5 days.

That night, she said no.
