Monsters

Just watched this and have to say i was very impressed, beautifully shot, cracking leads and given that everyone else in the movie was seemingly random people the filmaker met along the way, well if I hadnt known I would never have guessed, also seemingly he did the SFX on his laptop?? if this is correct them he is a very clever bloke. The story was a little slow and the monsters in question cleverly used (more noise and night vision sfx type thing) but there is one scene in the movie that was absolutely stunningly shot and the guy could not have done any better I dont think.

I hope to see it at some point next week as I`ve heard very good things about the movie. Isn`t this in the wrong forum?

really liked Skyline,  but wasn`t keen on cloverfield...  But, to be fair, i think one of the reasons i wasn`t overly impressed by cloverfield was that it had been massively hyped, so i had high expectations of it.  wheras i hadn`t heard anything about skyline at all.

Monsters is a perfect example of what you can do with a tiny budget, if you happen to have a director who understands characters as well as visual effects, actors who have chemistry, and something resembling a plot.

Skyline is the perfect example of what you can do with a small budget, if have no artistic vision, have no clue what characters are, couldn`t care less about casting interesting leads, and wrote down the entire plot on the back of a beermat.

Interesting factoids:

Monsters production budget: $500,000

Skyline filming budget: $500,000
Skyline effects budget: $10 million

Don`t really see your problem with skyline, it`s a well made popcorn sci fi movie, no point getting stressed or defensive about it :/
