Went to the midnight screening. What a load of old pony. I'm sad to say that my interest in these films is now pretty much dead. Even putting aside the rose-tinted specs the old ones are immeasurably superior. Also, anyone who slags George Lucas off after the two Disney offerings needs to take along hard look in the mirror...

no spoilers, but it was too long.

We watched Force Awakens again at the weekend, and we really enjoyed it again.

This one though, bits I liked, I appreciated the nods to previous films, had some good humour, good action, but other bits had me head scratching, and I think put me off what happened next :(

The strange thing is, I'm one of those wierdos that likes Ep I!

Have to agree with you on this, as to me the first three SW4, 5 and 6 were the best of all, and can never be bested.

I don't give a monkeys nuts, in these new Disney ones if the characters get bumped off or not.

Everything I've read has been positive so far but you lot have got me nervous going in. I know I'm Star Wars biased and lap up anything I'm given ( I love them all without shame) but I'm curious how you all felt about Force Awakens and Rogue One?

Force Awakens and Rogue One were awesome, I enjoy the prequels as well.

the other day, I think BBC reported that all media sites were giving it rave reviews, apart from 1 bucking the trend, now the ppl have seen it, there's stories that there was a review embargo, or good reviews were bought :(

Maybe we expected too much? Don't get me wrong, it has lots of great bits, but it's almost Star Wars by numbers, kind of as if a fan boy did it.

It reminds me of later Saw films, where the traps were designed first, then the story to link them was an afterhtought.

double check we've borrowed enough from other films - check

I think they had too many scenes they wanted to put in the movie, because they'd look good, which they did, but then added some nonsense to link them :(

You've heard us slagging off, so now you may enjoy it 'cos it won't be as bad as we've made out ;)

I'll still buy it, and may see it at cinema again as missus couldn't make it, so maybe it's not that bad?

What I do like about Star wars is that you always get new amazing stuff in every movie.

I remember seeing the hover car in action, that Luke had and was amazed.
The speeder flying bikes through the forest was fantastic.
The At-At walkets in the Hoth battle.
Etc.

But in this new film VIII, the final battle reminded me of Hoth initially, ie, the ice and snow battle, and though here we go again, surely they can think something else up  but no I was wrong..... SPOILER:
.....and it was a white salt layer on  top of a red crust, and that just made the battle amazing, as the red crust showed up, due ot battle damage.

Well, I liked it a lot, as did Annie. The lowest points for me were:

Phasma - why even bother?

The whole sub-plot with Finn & Rose led to absolutely nothing. They didn't get what they went for, and even if they had it would have been useless, but instead brought back a guy who sold the rebellion for money - thereby making Finn & Rose directly responsible for 75% of the rebellion getting murderedBut I liked everything else. The interplay between Rey & Ben was very well done. A much funnier film than I was expecting, and the Porgs weren't actually annoying, and assisted in one of the funniest moments in the film.

I really liked the last 2, this one, seriously i struggled to stay awake, absolutely no interest in anything going on, just completely bored :(

this will restore our faith in the force :)
