the death of blu ray ?????

peter parker (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 22nd February 2009, 16:20

so i was wondering around a local ye old car boot sale this morning and as usual there were the dvd pirates splashed over the first few rows when i then noticed that they were selling pirate blu ray disks as well as there standard stuff.
i thought one of the reasons studios were signing up to this format was because of the complications in pirating the movies and the fact it would not be worth copying them due to the high prices of the disks.
with the price of these things so high in the shops and now the pirates getting there hands on them i think the format could have a problem.

Highly unlikely they were actually blu-rays. Pirates that sell at bootfairs aren`t known for their honesty and integrity when selling their wares.

As for the format having a problem with piracy, the whole industry made around $9billion profit (after losses due to piracy) last year. I think they`ll be fine..

I posted a link to a story in another thread a whle ago

Quote:
The pirates are apparently ripping high-def movies (cracking Blu-ray`s AACS and BD+ encryption in the process) and re-encoding them using AVCHD, which offers a 720p picture. Because of the reduction in resolution, file sizes are smaller and can be burned to regular DVDs instead of the more costly Blu-ray discs, netting a tidy profit. Needless to say, the film industry isn`t thrilled by the news. "We are concerned and are assigning priority to this issue," the MPA`s Asia-Pacific managing director Mike Ellis told the Wall Street Journal.

these discs could by like them.

Misleading thread title, surely? Probably from someone wanting the format to fail - right?

Of course not, What a stupid idea. Has `pirating` killed the music industry? No. Did it kill the VHS or DVD markets? No. Does it cut into the profits of massive corporations? Possibly, but probably not as much as they`d have you think given that a lot of pikeys would never buy legitimate good to begin with.

It was me that was selling them. :)

Blu rays biggest problem is the fact that DVD exists and the prices of the format, it would never have even survived this long if it was not for the large sale of flat screen TVs and the PS3 and dare I say sales hype, unless the price of the machines and discs match that of DVD then it will never be the number one format, and I am also talking about home computer use here as well, where even the price of DL DVDR discs is still to high for me to use when I can still pick up 200 blank 4.7gb DVD-+R for around the £20 mark.

Just my opinion of course. :)
