Family Box Office - Shoddy customer service

Last December I noticed this company seemed to be offering some of the best deals on R4 discs.

I thought they could replace Eazydvd as my R4 supplier of choice. However, being cautious and aware that service and reliability might be dubious, I place a small order of 5 pounds.

When the goods failed to turn up after 6 weeks I emailed FBO to be informed that a 3 month wait would be required to see if the goods turned up.

When this deadline passed without the disc`s arrival I emailed FBO again. They informed me a replacement would be sent. A few days later I received an email informing me that my credit card company had rejected my transaction. Now this was because my card had been transferred to a new number - a fancy platinum one - oooooh! But this is by the way.

`What transaction?`, I thought. FBO have already taken payment.
`Its for the insurance of the replacement goods`, came back the response.

Here we have 2 problems - Firstly FBO were clearly going to charge me an insurance cost for the replacement goods - WITHOUT SEEKING MY AUTHORISATION!
Secondly, why should I pay to have the goods insured after having over 100 items successfully delivered to me in the previous year!

OK then comes the reply - `We will send the goods without insurance`.

2 months later (May) - still no disc. When I entered into correspondence with FBO they informed me that I had not agreed to the goods being sent without insurance!

Quite staggering! By this point I could see there was some wisdom behind my testing of the company`s service by only making a small order as I would hate to have been out of pocket for a substantial sum.

Anyway - when I contacted my credit card company they told me that the 120 day dispute deadline had passed but as I had been a longstanding customer they themselves would refund my costs for undelivered goods.

Another point involved in this saga is that the correspondence with FBO contained more than a hint of scepticism about my honesty. Indeed one email in particular implied that the sender thought I had received the goods and was simply lying about it.

Needless to say I have contiued to use Eazydvd as my R4 supplier

What strikes me as particularly strange about this situation is that FBO seem to have a decent reputation. However it is one that I can strongly dispute.

RE: Payday next Thurday and I would like some advice (X-Box)....

Buffy?
Emulators? FInal burn alpha is essential!
Enter the matrix?
Sega GT 2002?
Gun Valkyrie?
Timesplitters 2?

RE: Blockbuster Sale 80% off!!!!

Many people are in same boat - though none anticipate problem u have had - bottom line is the product does not match its description - false advertising - u must get a refund.

RE: 2D shoot em ups

Tried the Final Burn Alpha emulator?

Games like Dodonpachi, Gigawing, Guwange etc are mind-blowing and retina detaching!

Framerate with this emulator is excellent. Even better with an x-box on your telly!

RE: NEW TO XBOX NEED SOME TIPS GUYS

For driving u must play Sega GT - absolutely beautiful both visually and handling wise. U can probably pick up the Sega GT / Jet set radio double disc for around a tenner - excellent value for classy games.

Buffy and Enter the Matrix are great fun.

For shootemups u must have Panzer Dragoon Orta - again Sega being brilliant. Gun Valkyrie is another classy but taxing shootemup.

If ur a fan of 2d shootemups get the Final Burn emulator and the 40-50 roms. Especially recommended is Dodonpachi and Gigawing but there are many more fantastic 2d shootemups.

Enjoy - ur in for some fun!

RE: Enter the Matrix - worth buying, or only renting?

Back to subject - ahem
Enter the Matrix is great fun and is that not why we play games? - sure its simplistic compared to some games but the range of cool moves available and the way the plote merges with the films are major pros. Go on - buy it - u know u want to wallrun and cartwheel whilst firing a machine gun!

RE: Predator 2

Its a good buy - for a very underrated film - great action sequences and a great story - double check there are no cuts to it!

RE: Thanks!

RE: bargain hong kong legends at bensons world

maybe too late to warn you but ninja... is a dreadful film - some really cringeworthy moments - not a patch on magnificent butcher, iron monkey, and legend of a fighter.

RE: Chewin The Fat @ HMV

Its a BBC Scotland comedy show - and very funny.

RE: Shoddy customer service from Dabs

Well here`s an update - last Thursday 6 weeks had elapsed since I returned the card. I had heard nothing in the interim. I sent an email to the 5 different people whom I had previously dealt with in this matter demanding to have a progress update and to inform that the 6 week dealine was up.

By Monday morning I had heard nothing and the steam was billowing from my ears. Late morning I receive an informative email which revealed my card was still being repaired under warranty! At this point I decide a phone call is needed (Though such a service is not normally accorded a non-trade customer).

When I logged in to my account with them for my account no. lo and behold I notice that about 15 mins earlier a replacement had been ordered and would be dispatched wthin 24 hours.

I now have the new card installed and it is working - tho the last one did - for 5 weeks.

The lesson from this is not to deal with dabs - ever.

RE: Shoddy customer service from Dabs

Thanks for this info guys/gals - I have since sent the following email to the customer service rep and will see what emerges - any further advice would be appreciated -
Further to our earlier conversation - this transaction is attracting a lot of attention on the forum websites that I use (Over 200 viewings so far) - It appears other customers are not very satisfied with dabs.

However it also appears that your company is dicing with a contravention of the sale of goods act 1979 from which the following is an extract -

1.—(1) In section 14 of the [1979 c. 54.] Sale of Goods Act 1979 (implied terms about quality or fitness) for subsection (2) there is substituted— "(2) Where the seller sells goods in the course of a business, there is an implied term that the goods supplied under the contract are of satisfactory quality.
(2A) For the purposes of this Act, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances.
(2B) For the purposes of this Act, the quality of goods includes their state and condition and the following (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods—
(a) fitness for all the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied,
(b) appearance and finish,
(c) freedom from minor defects,
(d) safety, and
(e) durability

The full act is viewable here -
http://www.hmso.gov.uk/acts/acts199...940035_en_1.htm

In short you have sold me goods which are not of `merchantable quality` or `fit for purpose` with direct reference to the goods durability (which at 5 weeks I am sure you would not even dispute).

All of this information is presently being passed on to bbc`s watchdog program and two widely read PC magazines - I think it would be in your best interests to take action and avoid further negative publicity - I couldn`t hazard a guess at what damage this has already done your company`s reputation but it will only be the tip of the iceberg compared to what will happen if either the magazines I have corresponded with or the tv program decides to publish the situation.

I am also currently corresponding with trading standards over your failure to fund the return postage costs of the goods.

If you are not in a position to affect dab`s choice of action as regards this particular transaction then I would very much appreciate the contact details of someone who is as soon as possible,
regards,
Stephen McDonald

Shoddy customer service from Dabs

Having bought a graphics card from Dabs five weeks ago - a fault has developed with the fan - can`t find a replacement anywhere.

So I have elected to return the card to Dabs. They have informed me that I will have to return the card at my expense (around 10 pounds!) and that the card will be sent to the manufacturer to be repaired under warranty and this is likely to take between 4 and 6 weeks.

So in short I have been sold a faulty good - I am expected to pay for this both in cash terms (Postage) and time by having to do without an essential part of my computer for around a month.

This is very shoddy service from a major internet etailer and I will certainly not be purchasing from them again.

RE: Wanted: Wanted "Anne of Green Gables" DVD "HELP"!!!

Do a search on www.thedvdforums.com - someone has been trying to trade/sell this title for quite a while - name stuck in my mind. Should be easy to find - I think they have offered it to everyone!

RE: Could this be the future of home entertainment?

This looks impressive but why name the product after an Auf Wiedersehn Pet character? :)

RE: itv Digital near to collapse

A real pity that Sky will be more or less unchallenged from now on.
Channel lineup never really competed with Sky.
This kind of operation requires large billions to become established. It was never resourced properly and Sky outmarketed them.

RE: Seinfeld

What about the episode shown on Paramount this week?

It`s the one where they park their cars at a car park used by hookers.
At the end Kramer is dressed in full pimp rigout and arrested.

Perhaps the most well contrived scenario for me is the one where George pretends to impress a girl by claiming to be a marine biologist. Kramer has been golfing on the beach. As George and girlfriend are strolling along beachfront, George`s skills are called upon to remove one of Kramer`s golf balls from the spout of a beached whale!!!!

This show replaced Cheers as my alltime favourite comedy after about 10 episodes.

RE: HMV Sale - Some Gems

NO! ........ sorry didn`t realise u were standing so close..... the HMV Blue Velvet IS widescreen with a Hopper interview - according to the cover. I have heard that the transfer is poor though - but I`ll be the judge of that!

RE: Mic for MiniDisc

Maplins will sell u one for around £3.
Any computer mic will work with MD.
Do not buy a £100 mic from the specialist sites/retailers unless u r indulging in professional recording - even then test a cheapie first - u will be surprised by the quality.

RE: v mini series march !!

This was repeated in the past year on one of the channels. Was it C5? Anyway it may have been a Sky digital channel.
I never missed an episode in its original run (82-3?)
But I was 12 and when I saw it again I realised that.
I don`t think that u can ever get the same pleasure from watching any film as an adult compared to when u are a child. I think this show was primarily aimed at a 15 - 20 year old audience.
As a child u never really have to `suspend disbelief` and while I am a massive film/tv buff I don`t think I ever get the childhood buzz of watching shows.
Sad really - but I suppose the alternative of not growing up could be sadder.

RE: My Girlfriend is a Cheating Slut!

I had visions of a nasty reveal all from your title. You know, name address who with etc. That could have involved a vindictive titter or two. Please don`t take this as incitement to assassinate character ... if u don`t want to:)
Ah well there`re plenty more slu... I mean fish in the sea.

RE: What is the most wanted DVD?
