RE: scan sc200

Hey read the first sentance of Toy_Car`s post. There are over 1000 members of the Scan forum and it has only been going for less than 2 months. Ask them the question. My opion is that the Scan is an excelent player.

RE: Official SC2000 Firmware V2.23 Online

NiVZ,
Do you know what is changed or new?

RE: What do you think of the Scan SC-2000?

I would like to apologise on behalf of everyone who makes this forum so valuable, for the previous post. You must wonder what in God`s name would prompt someone to reply with such a post.

Anyway. Yes, the Scan is excellent. There were problems with some of the earlier players but it is a well sorted fully featured player.

Shuffle function observation with Scan SC-2000

The MP3 Shuffle function is a pseudo shuffle function. I.e. it will play the same sequence of tracks each time the player is switched on for each CD when it is enabled. However, I have noticed that if you select Shuffle, and then disable and re-enable Shuffle, that each time you do this, it will generate a new random seed to play a new sequence. (I am using v2.08). Cool.

RE: Firmware upgrade on Scan SC 2000

Try re-blowing another CD.. Also make sure you get the firmware files from a good source such as NiVZ`s excellent site at http://members.scotland.com/NiVZ/scan/index.html. V2.08 works for me.

RE: CHEAP CD-R SELLER NEEDED

Yesterday Staples had 50 Spindle 12x speed 80 min for £12.90 inc VAT in their stores.

They also do the sexy Traxdata Black 8x speed 74min spindles of 25 for £7-90 inc VAT - not so cheap but look good.

RE: Scan 2000 - playing music CD`s with CD ROM content

Xeno,

What exactly is the "extra stuff" on the CD-R? Does the CD-R play on a normal CD-R capable CD player?
Have you tried the original CD? Perhaps some of the CD format or structure was lost when the copy was made onto CD-R.

RE: Scan 2000 - playing music CD`s with CD ROM content

The Scan does the right thing when you put in a CD with audio tracks and QuickTime or MPEG videos on it. It ignores the videos and plays only the audio tracks.

RE: Photo Albums on VCD, Questions

1. You can leave the pictures in any size as long as they are in JPEG format.
2.WinOnCD 3.7PE and 3.8PE are better than the current Nero for this as they allow easy Photo Album creation. The music track feature in 3.8PE is not worth much as it offers a selection of a music track instead of a picture, whereas what it should do is provide background music while viewing pictures. The new Nero 5.5 also looks good but is not out yet.
3. Cequadrat who make WinOnCD were bought by Adaptec (Roxio) last year. Unfortunately WinOnCD makes EasyCD look so p*** poor that Roxio will not sell it except in Germany. The German version is in English with German help files. You can either buy it from www.cequadrat.de or find it else where ;)

RE: Scan 2000 - playing music CD`s with CD ROM content

Andy-J,
Usually these types of enhanced music CD`s are designed to be played only on a PC. You could extract the videos from these CD`s and blow them onto an SVCD format using Nero or WinOnCD to play on the Scan.

RE: MP3 DIRECTORY STRUCTURE

It doesn`t matter what CD S/W you use. This is a feature of the current Scan configuration. It may use this structure because there is such a limited screen available to display directiry structures - TV`s are not good for this function. Perhaps when long filename are addressed, the full directory structure can be viewed as burnt onto the CD. At least the current method allows you to view all directories.

RE: MP3 DIRECTORY STRUCTURE

The way that the Scan (V208) appears to work is that it searches for sub directories and then places them all one level deep together with the ROOT directory. So you can`t use an Artist1\Album, Artist2\Album structure. If you can blow a CD and then view it with your PC Explorer then it should be OK. The Scan is quite clever in ignoring all non mp3 files.

Who need Album collections anyway? Ditch the tracks you don`t like - there are always some, and compile in a flat structure all the tracks you do want. Then use Shuffle for a 12 hour favourite jukebox.

RE: SC2000 playing MPEG File from PC

Vcdhelper.com is the best place to start and you should find all the information you need here. http://hv.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a.tcl?topic=Video%20CD is also a useful place to look.

You need decent CD Burning software. Both Nero 5.3.x and WinOnCD 3.7PE and 3.8PE will do this for VCD and SVCD`s. I have used all 3 sucessfully with my Scan. Keep looking out for the new Nero 5.5 which looks like being the best available. XVCD is not a standard yet and means many things to many people.

RE: MP3 CD-R Burning

This is an unfortunate problem with CD`s full of mp3`s and there appears to be no CD standard yet created that can do this. I hope there will be one because devices that play CD`s full of mp3`s will be common place soon. The mp3`s are just data files which are stored in a very different way to audio tracks on a CD.
The only thing you can do is to rename with leading numbers for example, your tracks - not very elegant. I have spent ages trying to figure this out. What you really want is a player that searches the disc for a playlist, and then plays the tracks in the playlist on the CD on the playlist order. Put it on the Scan wish list.

RE: SC2000 Bright Colour Smearing

That`s why Sony don`t put too much effort into DVD players any more. They leave that to the smaller companies that focus exclusively on leading edge DVD players.

RE: Scan SC-2000 `MP3 Fastforward and rewind` New functionality

I have firmware V2.08 and just tried this and there is a degree of mp3 FF and FR function. It increases the play speed to about 10x or 20x and gets to the end of the track very quickly. - same in FR. I did not notice this function before V 2.08. Is the V2.14 version better than this with more control of the FF and FR?

RE: SC2000 - IMPORTANT INFO

Thanks, I understand now.

RE: SC2000 - IMPORTANT INFO

NiVZ,
I am confused by what you are talking about here.
1. What do you mean by "increases the TDVD-000.rom filename"?
2. What is the SSW window?
3. What is "the new short SSW code" and what does it do?
4. What`s this all about?
Gary

RE: Oh My God!! - SCAN-dal

Ms Bear.

That is not relevant to this thread or interesting or any consequence to the original post. You sound very happy with whatever you bought. It makes me wonder why you are reading and contributing to a thread about a problem that is nothing to do with you.

RE: Scan SC-2000 `MP3 Fastforward and rewind` New functionality

Excellent news. Anyone noticed any other new features over v2.08?

RE: SCAN OWNERS WHO UPGRADE -DO U USE CDR OR CDRW?

The firmware is most likely stored in Flash EEPROM in the Scan. The upgrade is 512KB so it is a big file. On this assumption the device can be re-programmed more times than you could re-program it. Don`t worry about it.

RE: SCAN OWNERS WHO UPGRADE -DO U USE CDR OR CDRW?

Closed session CD-R burned with Nero 5.3.8 and WinOnCD 3.8PE and also CD-RW (cheap 4x no name brand and HP 2X) with WinOnCD 3.8PE (several times). No problems reported.

RE: Scan SC-2000 died upgrading to official 2.14 Firmware

I have played about with upgrading my Scan with initially CD-R and then CD-RW. The CD-RW has been successful every time for me. I don`t think the media is the issue here.
You can always check the .rom file on the CD with a downloadable CRC checking program - there are many out there.

RE: XGA versus SVGA

You are not missing the point and are correct. The extra resolution would be wasted. DVD`s are comparitively low resolution but prove that you don`t need high resolution to look good.

RE: Has anyone got a Photo album created with WinOnCd to play in the Aiwa 370?

Nero 5 won`t, but Nero 5.5 will do this I believe which is due out any day. I have used WinOnCD 3.8PE to make multiple album music and picture SVCD`s. I don`t know about the Aiwa 370 but these play fine on my Scan 2000.

RE: Scan users a question on MP3

Daveo,
I think you are correct because there is only a left and right phono output apart form the coax audio output, so the 5.1 multichannel output must come from somewhere else. I can`t help you with any amp suggestions.

RE: Scan users a question on MP3

Janie,

I`m not sure about your question, but the Scan does not use a playlist concept such as Winamp. It plays all mp3 track in a directory, in sequential or shuffle order. You cannot select only the tracks and order to play them in using the TV and Scan. You would do this when you create the CD with the mp3`s.

RE: Scan users a question on MP3

Yes it has a Shuffle function. This is a pseudo shuffle today, i.e. it plays the same sequence each time. However, the original Scan did not have a Shuffle MP3 feature and this has been added as the product has matured. I hope that a proper shuffle function, i.e. true random, will be added soon or someone will hack into the firmware to povide this.

FYI - The scan is more like a 12 CD player with instant track access. I am still listening to a CD I put on at 07:30 this morning without any track being repeated yet and hours to go. Cool!
