Page 1 of Official SC2000 Firmware V2.23 Online

Hi everyone,

Nelley has just sent me the official Scan release of V2.23. It`s posted up at my site http://members.scotland.com/NiVZ/scan

I`ve NOT tested this myself yet as I don`t have my SC2000 here at the moment, but Nelley said it was okay to put it up. I`ll be upgrading around 14:00 when I have my SC2000 back.

Do you know what is changed or new?

I heard rumors through the grapevine of what was new up to v2.20, but I`m not sure whats new in this one. I`m burning the disc now and I`ve got my player sitting ready ;-)

Okay I`ve upgraded straight from V2.14 to V2.23 and everything is fine. I`ve only had a 5min look at it, but I`ve played a DVD, CDA, and VCD and all work fine. I used The Matrix as the test DVD and the background looks much crisper than in V2.14 (I heard the picture was improved in V2.20).

I`m away to burn an MP3 disc to see if anything there has changed, and then I`ll do a test SVCD.

That is good news about the firmware regarding the picture quality as you know my opinion concerning upgrading and the picture degredation.

Would you say there is a significant improvement in background quality?

Xeno - Yes picture is definitely better than previous versions. The foreground was always clear, but sometimes I noticed `crawling` effects in the out of focus parts (ie walls behind people, etc) but this is now gone.

The graphic problem on the Dynamic Range slider has been fixed. (I noticed that it defaulted to 1/8 instead of Full this time).

The one or two second skip at the start of some MP3 files is still there. I`ll maybe use something other than MusicMatch Jukebox to encode them. I`m away to try a SVCD slideshow now (never done one of these before).

Could you all post any changes you find so I can update the FAQ.

For now though this looks like the best firmware yet (although still no long MP3 filenames - hopefully this will come soon)

When you upgrade to this version does macrovision kick in?

Nelley doesn`t want me to mention the `M` word, but it`s safe to say this:

Whenever you upgrade to any VCR Friendly verison of the firmware (even v1.80) you normally need to enter the code to turn it off.

Easiest way to find out is to try it.
