Scan 2000 - playing music CD`s with CD ROM content

Andy-J (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 25th February 2001, 12:37

I`ve had my Scan 2000 for a couple of months now, and am very impressed with it. DVD playback is great - no problems so far.
One irritation is, that I have a couple music CD`s with CD Rom content "extra features" etc, which the Scan rejects. It`s not a big problem as have burned the music tracks on to a new CD, however I am curious to know if this is common problem with DVD players, or is there a setting on the Scan that I have not selected.
I`m sure one of you will be able to enlighten me !

I seem to remember this was a problem with earlier firmware versions on the Scan. v1.92 and below I think.

Check what firmware version your scan has by pressing Power On - Open - Setup - Stop - Step - Menu.

Main Ver. is the firmware version. The latest is 2.14 and is available at this link if you need/want to update.

Of course I may be barking up the wrong tree......... ;-)

Andy-J,
Usually these types of enhanced music CD`s are designed to be played only on a PC. You could extract the videos from these CD`s and blow them onto an SVCD format using Nero or WinOnCD to play on the Scan.

I had this problem too with my original Scan (v1.87). If the disc was a CD-Extra (ie with QuickTime videos, Scrensavers, etc) the disc would just eject. Newer firmware handles these discs no problems, although it takes a couple of seconds longer to start playback.

I upgraded to 2.14 and tried to play the new creed album which contains extra stuff -videos,pics etc and the scan dosent want to know about it it just attempts to read it again and again with no sucsess.

It may be because it is a cdr but i doubt it.

The Scan does the right thing when you put in a CD with audio tracks and QuickTime or MPEG videos on it. It ignores the videos and plays only the audio tracks.

Xeno,

What exactly is the "extra stuff" on the CD-R? Does the CD-R play on a normal CD-R capable CD player?
Have you tried the original CD? Perhaps some of the CD format or structure was lost when the copy was made onto CD-R.

Thanks NiVZ

My machine was v1.92 when shipped, - upgraded to v2.04s from Nelley almost straight away - looks like I need to go to v2.14. Have already downloaded from your site - along with your FAQ`s - very useful thanks.

I think I have read somewhere on this forum that I should downgrade to v1.80 before upgrading to v2.14. Is this necessary ?

Thanks everybody else for your input.

Most of the time it is fine to go from your current firmware to the latest. If you do encounter any difficulties you can downgrade to v1.80 and then up to the latest firmware.
