RE: Twitter being Musked

I think they're all in their infancy and experiencing some kind of growth spurt.
USA Dems seem to favour Tribel
UK seems to be more Mastodon
and as it says in this Beeb article about Mastodon Jack Dorsey, the original Mr Twitter, is working on a new network called Blue Sky.

If you're more (a lot more) right wing you could try Mr Orange's Truth Social or Parler.

I don't see any reason to flee Twitter yet but that doesn't mean I won't be trying one or two of the others out.
The Blue tick nonsense doesn't affect me as nobody gives enough of a sh*t about who I am and what I think (shut up, yes I do) and won't until it pi**es off enough of the already ticked to the point where they leave.
If I start losing enough of my favourite follows then I'll naturally not us it as much.

I expect Twitter will settle down and row back a bit as Musk realises where the dollars are. He has already tried to blame the amount of people leaving on pressure groups and campaigners but an interview with companies who have suspended or left the platform state Musk and his nutty retweets as the reason.
The illogicality of free speech costing $8 a month seems to escape him and initially the only qualification for getting a tick seems to be stumping up so it confirms nothing and could end up being a Bot badge.

His first problem is how much Twitter is now personally costing him. Whatever he inevitably sells it for will be a lot less than he paid for it.

His second problem is thinking people want to pay for it. YouTube is successful because it's free to use, and creators have found a way to monetise their content (annoyingly for Google, mostly not through Google, through Patreon). Either Twitter encourages creators by supporting them, or they will go elsewhere.

the paying for a tick thing is wierd, I guess it's not a problem for organisations, big celebrities, but the smaller ones it is, and I see some say they won't pay it out of "principle", which seems fair enough, I think if some of thee ppl i follow lose their tick, it shouldn't matter as fans will still find them and hopefuly work out it's the real deal.

Mastodon and Tribel aren't exactly user friendly, you can tell some IT ppl thought of them and designed them ;) I guess with time as they get more users and constructive criticismm they'll adapt to what ppl want, unless next week everyone realises they can't be arsed to leave twitter and don't care.

I think facebook has survived various backlashes, and "everyone" threatening to leave.

I'm hearing if you don't have the tick, the algorithm will downgrade your content and your stuff will be much harder to find - maybe fine for followers but twitter big beasts want their output to reach further than just followers.

Also many big accounts are aggrieved by the fact they are expected to pay twitter while they supply popular content which makes the site work in the first place. They can easily afford the cost but it's the principle.

And I've already seen parody accounts setting up as Elon Musk - complete with blue tick and with a pre-hair transplant pic of Musk lol - mocking the notion that the tick guarantees authenticity.

I haven't looked yet but if anyone who uses Facebook says that I'll personally give their head a wobble.

Dinner first?🙂

My point is that I gave up on Facebook several years ago as it was a total mess.
Nothing was easy to find and when you did find it they'd altered/moved/removed it the next time you logged on.

I just can't imagine any other new site being that much of a sh*t show

So Stephen Fry has quit Twitter. That’s like Jesus becoming an atheist.

More and more people registering with Mastodon.
They haven't left Twitter, well not all of them, so it may be a relatively slow migration.
Tried registering myself but I'm guessing it's quite a flood as the site wont load.
Fry being quite the techie, fairly political and an early adopter I'm not surprised he's at the head of the exodus.

EDIT: Managed to sign on myself.
Same name as Twitter so @egazivnE[at]ku.ppanodotsam

Not the first time Fry has thrown his toys out the Twitter pram is it. Nevertheless he'll get a lot of new mastodon users. 18.4k followers just now, when I followed him :) )

Rufus Hound was asking about it yesterday, I guess some want to tread the water, is it worth them/their ppl running another social media account.
