Another theory I just heard, which is just as likely, is that the GOP realise it's Trump or they're out anyway as he'll stand whatever they do.
He could drop dead tomorrow and he'd still get 10% of the vote.

Which would make Jan 6th 2.0 an almost certainty.

The committee investigating the Jan 6 insurrection have oficially asked the justice department to prosecute Donald Trump for:

• Inciting, assisting, aiding, or comforting an insurrection
• Obstruction of an official proceeding
• Conspiracy to defraud the United States
• Conspiracy to make a false statement

Clear as day that he's bang to rights on all 4 charges, but it'll be the usual cries of politically-motivated witchhunt.

It's not a hunt when the quarry is front and centre, begging for attention

I wish it wasn't so but given the long windedness of the American legal system he's likely to be dead of old age before doing any time.

There's a lot of buzz, mainly from the Media & Trump himself, that there's a possibility of Trump being arrested tomorrow, linked to the $130,000 hush-money payment he made to Stormy Daniels. Well, Michael Cohen gave her the money, then Trump reimbursed Cohen but called it a payment for 'legal fees' - which amounts to falsifying business records, which is a misdemeanour in New York. If found to have been breaking election law by trying to hide criminal acts by falsifying those records, gets him a free upgrade to a felony.

Which all very small fish & Al Capone sideways prosecutions, but wouldn't you know it, old Drumph has flown off the deep end in response to media reports about the potential arrest (which may include fingerprints & mugshots), and called for mass protests across the country. This, it seems, may not help his case. 

This unhinged call to action could cite him as a flight risk, and any judge presiding over the arraignment could consider Trump's arrest as a potential boiling point and incarcerate him as if Jan 6th was anything to go by, Trumps words & actions could present a credible threat of harm.

In short, he just doesn't know when to keep his trap shut.

Probably not, the rich rarely fall this hard. But if it prevents him ever being president again it'll be worth it.
