Page 1 of Weird car sales question
In all my years of buying cars this is a weird one.
My daughter is trading in her car, and buying a newer low mileage demonstrator convertible. I have put £500 down as deposit over the phone, (bank of Dad), my daughter has test driven the car, and we are going in to do the paperwork end of the week.
Now the car is a good price, thousands off the new car price, the trade-in price seems good for an old car, everything looked sweet.
OK..roll on today when I checked the car dealers website to see the car pictures, and saw the exact same car up for £230 cheaper.
So...do I question this as i and daughter have not yet signed for the car and its all verbal so far and just a deposit paid?
Or will they just take £230 off the trade-in if I demand the £230 off the demonstrator car, swings and roundabouts?
Its a weird one, having never seen a car lowered in price while doing a transaction in 40 years of dealing with car salesmen.
Do you think I should tell them about the £230 off as per the website page and not ask for cash, but instead ask for a sweetener like asking for car mats and a wind deflector, or a free next service etc.

Tell them about it and a face them off.
Wait for the 'Ah yes but' and take it from there.
You give me the impression you're no slouch in negotiations so just keep on till your happy with what's offered.

argue the toss with them... i always get additional items, 3 years free servicing, spare full size tyre... on the one i bought in January... and 0% interest!
Thanks, going in at the weekend to confront them on the price, but play it shrewd so as not to lose the car, as my Daughter really wants it.

Went into showroom today, sat down to do the deal, and once all was just about sorted out, I asked my Daughter to show the website page on her mobile phone to the saleswoman.
I was ready with my 'Foremans voice to lazy workers' just in case, but was not needed.
She went to talk to her Boss, came back and said someone did not tell there advertising that a deposit had been made on the car, and hence car had been reduced £230 that week as it was available stock.
So because my Daughter had put deposit down before reduction, saleswoman said they would honor that price in extras or cash, so we got £100 off the balance, plus a wind deflector ordered, that my Daughter will get in a few weeks to fit to her car.
Result, and it went far too easy for me, must have been my smooth Oz accent that did it. Daughter is well pleased

Thank you 😊 !!!
Was arranging my daughters car insurance on line just now, and just noted that Confused . com are giving away £20 in fuel if you get a policy via them, so I did that, and the fuel will be a bonus
(better with fuel rather than their previous stuffed toy offers)
So true , well gas is cheaper here so we get the bird from most insurances. So much for that, if they don’t get us with petro they do with insurances.
