Euro lottery odds will now be impossible !

bandicoot (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 30th April 2011, 15:03

Starting in May, the euro lottery will be on Friday and Tuesday as well.

But they have changed the odds by increasing them via another added two balls.

Intead of pick 5 normal balls from 50 and 2 special balls from 9.

It will now be 5 normal balls from 50 and 2 special balls from 11.

This makes the chance odds of winning horrendious !

I`m packing it in, as I am not wasting £2 on no chance :(

What were the odds before? Probably many millions to one already. ;)

The Lotto is about 14million to one, with 6 balls out of 49. The euromillions is 5 balls out of 50, then 2 balls out of 9. (soon to be 11). The escalated odds will be in the billions.

It`s sheer money-grabbing. Those that play the same numbers every week will feel compelled to play the second draw, for fear of missing their numbers when they come up. The extra draw will, of course, dilute the jackpots to about half, as evidenced by the Lotto draw when it went bi-weekly.

But the first draw on Tuesday is a whopping £85m. :o
It`s just pure greed on the lotterys part and it will go the same way as the normal lotto. More draws = less jackpot prize. I`m not trying to sound greedy but the lotto was more fun when it was just 1 draw per week.

You`re not wrong. as silly as it seems, when I see a £65million triple rollover jackpot one week, the £3.5million a few days later doesn`t feel worth the trip to the newsagents

and where did the funds for the £85 million intro jackpot come from? Not from charitable donations and certainly not from their profits

I dont play the lottery every week, I used to back when it first started though, I play when I remember to get a ticket (2 or 3 times a month) I never play the Wednesday lottery unless its a big rollover, dont play any of the daily games or buy scratchcards.

The Euromillions is the same, I play it once or twice a month when I remember to buy a ticket

I dont have a set of numbers for the very reason that when a new game is introduced you feel forced to play incase your numbers come up on another draw, so I do lucky dips all the time

Ive won a tenner (if i remember correctly) 5 times in all the years of playing the lotto and never won a penny on the euromillions so an increase in the odds will probably make no difference to me lol

Well exactly as I predicted, its up to £157 Million now and no winners, and by adding that two extra ball numbers to the eurolottery makes the odds up to a crazy `116 million to one` chance of winning, so this is just going on and on and on.

The odds are almost impossible, considering the UK lottery is `16 million to one`, so it is not worth buying a eurolottery ticket I keep saying to myself.

There must be a limit to the jackpot eventually with all these gullable idiots buying a ticket!

Talking about gullable idiots.......

So what did I do this morning going to work ?
Bought the paper and a £2 eurolottery for this Friday, DOH !

Well, as they say, you got to be in it to win it, he he.

I`m of the opinion that the odds are actually greater than published. If you think thast the first ball is one of 50, then the next is one of 49 (remaining) and so on, then the 2 lucky stars, then the actual odds are (50x49x48x47x46x11x10) to one of getting the correct numbers.

I make that several billion to one. I would give an exact number, but my calulator doesn`t display that many digits

No Pete, probability doesn`t work that way..  The odds, for example, of getting the first number aren`t 1:50, they`re 5:50, then 4:49, then 3:48 etc.  i.e you don`t need them to be in the right order so in the first case you have 5 chances to get the number, then 4.......  The only time it`s 1:z is for your last ball..
I make it
5/50 x 4/49 x 3/48 x 2/47 x 1/46 x 2/11 x 1/10 = 116,531,800 to one.  Is that the figure they quote?
If it only used to have 9 balls then those odds will have been:
5/50 x 4/49 x 3/48 x 2/47 x 1/46 x 2/9 x 1/8 = 76,275,360 to one.
So, the odds have gone down considerably by adding those two balls - as you initially said.   52% less chance of winning.....
