Chimley pots

Yes you read it correctly. Chimley pots not Chimney pots. I was brought up saying chimley etc. Today I looked on Google & also Googled "Chimley pots". I can`t find out why some say `Chimley`. It seems Charles Dickens referred to them as Chimleys. Yorkshire tales also referres to them as chimleys. I`m sure it`s not going to be a favourite subject on here, but does anyone else say `Chimley` or know why it is now pronounced & spelt Chimney.

The childhood version was always Chimbley.
Which now winds me up nearly as much as hearing an adult say they`re going to Hospickle.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

This could become a very long thread.

My current peeve is the misuse of `like` as in "I like, didn`t say anything.", others are "give it me" rather than "give it to me", and "he won me" rather than "he won" or "he beat me".

I do not claim that my use of English is perfect, but some of these abuses do irritate.

Roundybout is another one used up our way. I hate hearing people use it though!
