Combination Microwave ovens

admars (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 19th December 2009, 20:14

We used to have a Sharp combination microwave oven, that last over 5 years, until at least one of the heating elements died, and so it didn`t seem economical to repair when we could get a new one for not much more than the elements cost!

So, in August we bought a Belling BEL CTS211A, which we always thought was a bit cheap and nasty (£80, Currys` cheapest combination). every now and again the turn table doesn`t work, and today missus went to use it, and it doesn`t turn, or heat as a microwave, an oven, or a grill.

Curry`s have a Kenwood reduced from 119.99 to 84.99, so would that be a better alternative ,or should we spend a bit more? Are Belling normally good and we were unlucky? My aunt recommended it, who works in Currys, I`ve never known her recommendations be bad before.

Cheers

Al

We`ve had our sharp for over 15 years & it`s still going strong. 4 of those years we had a hotel. We previously had a Panasonic that lasted for years until we sold it on to get a combination microwave. Facts are you have been recommended cheap crap, some may last some will not. Go for one of the better makes. I`ve named 2 but look for a Christmas specials on UK deals or MSE, etc.

We had a Panasonic combination one for 7 years, but then re-did the kitchen and it didn`t fit in (needed a smaller one).
Ours was sold to a friend where it is still going strong.

Needless to say, we bought a Panasonic again when the kitchen was finished (not a combi though, didn`t have the room on the worktop where we wanted it).

it did occur to me there might be a good reason why the Panasonics and Sharps combinations start at about £150, rather than sub £100.

Panasonic must be the most reliable and best quality mid-range brand out there.

Cheers all, we got a refund, and despite my suggestions of Panasonic, because the ppl on the forum says they`re good, the missus wanted the Sharp, because of it`s 40l capacity! Which means it`s as big inside as our actual gas oven. Our oven`s not that great so this will pretty much be a replacement.

Paull recommended Sharp, and our 1st was good while it lasted, and it did the lasagne I made last night well enough, so fingers crossed :D

Still got a Sharp one that we`ve had since 1992/3 and still looks new and works perfectly. It was £200 back then ( a housewarming pressy) so was pretty expensive.

why take life so seriously..its not like you are going to make it out alive

this one was £200, but missus is happy, she made a cake which turned out better than they ever did in the gas oven, and she made some biscuits to. I`ve only been allowed 1 so far, but that was good :D

I wonder how much more testing she will do :)

Cheers, merry Christmas,

Al
