I still enjoyed.  They couldn't have season after season of sneaking around a city or living in a camp.

RE: [VIDEO] Alien: Isolation (a possibly decent Alien game finally?)

I am going to see if this will run on my system.  If it does, I may purchase.

RE: The Walking Dead Season 5

Television gold, not a weak season yet.

RE: Ghostbusters Lego! :)

I love Lego, as do the kids; but the only thing that makes Lego prohibitively expensive, is Lego themselves.  Some of the licensed stuff is very over-priced.

RE: [VIDEO] Ghostbusters - Reboot - all women!

They ought to leave the franchise alone, now, but G2 is not that bad; I watched it the other week and enjoyed it.

RE: Crossover question

Just found in the manual for the speakers where it says that the crossover should be set to 200. That seems too high for 100Hz speakers with a powered sub, so I'll leave it at 120.

Thanks

RE: Dolby Atmos anyone?

When I was shopping for a new amp I almost got carried away with 7.1, networking, apps, etc. But, in the end, I saw sense and just went for a highly rated 5.1 system, without all the extra bells and whistles.

RE: Crossover question

The amp has set everything and does mange it, but I overrode the crossover to set it to 120.

Yes, the amp manages phase, but I can override this too.

Thanks

RE: Dolby Atmos anyone?

I think the biggest jump in recent Home Theatre sound was discrete surround channels.  Having 5.1 in the home really took Home Theatre to the next level and made it a comparable experience to cinema sound.

A lot of new introductions seem to be a bit gimmicky: extra sub, extra rear surrounds and now 3D sound above you.  Only a few big budget films are mixed for new sound formats, anyway, so you often don't get the extra benefit from the thousands of pounds that you have spent.

RE: Nobel Prize for Blue LED

There is nothing quite as cool as a blue LED.

RE: What would you do... (prolonged time off work)

Same as above; get up early, go to the gym, go for a walk...keep busy, set yourself projects.

I'd probably end up w*nking myself intoa coma...but that's just me.

Crossover question

I know that the answer to this question may well be, "whatever sounds best," but I just want to make sure that I have the technical side of it correct.

My new Yamaha RXV377 uses an optimiser mic and then you can fiddle with the settings afterwards.

I have set my sub to half volume and dialled up the crossover to max to allow the receiver to manage the bass crossover.  I have the 100Hz Pioneer SSL100 speaker set and so all speakers are set to "small".  However, as the minimum response on these speakers is 100Hz, I have set the crossover to 120Hz, to allow a 'safety' threshold.

As anything below 120Hz is non-directional does the above appear technically correct?  The bass doesn't seem to be "thudding" and the sound field does seem to mix well enough.

Once I have this sorted, I will be messing with the sub phase next :-)

Thanks

RE: Rear surrounds when listening position is against the wall.

High up and pointed down would probably also help them blend in to the room a bit better and also stop them from getting knocked about, etc.

RE: My new system (if anyone cares)

I think my wife may class that tinkering as, "f***ing about with those unsightly bl**dy speakers!"

Just found out they're sending me the 377 for the same money.

Which is nice...

RE: Rear surrounds when listening position is against the wall.

Thanks, both.  I may just get away with that...I shall give it a try.

All Googling does is provide conflicting opinions :-)  So unless anyone has overcome this issue with a 5.1 setup...

RE: Rear surrounds when listening position is against the wall.

But what if that isn't possible because of the fact that the settee is up against the rear wall?
Anyone that isn't dead centre on the settee will be getting a constant earful of whizzing bullets or echoey footsteps.

Nick

Rear surrounds when listening position is against the wall.

Hi

Am I correct in thinking that, when the listening position is up against the rear wall, the best set up for rear surrounds is higher up but pointed down at the listener(s)?

Thanks

Nick

My new system (if anyone cares)

Hi

So we are finally getting round to re-decorating the living room and, now that the kids are older, the spousal agreement of proper surround sound has kicked in.

Up to now, I have had to put up with a Yammy YSP800 sound bar and an MS powered sub.  However, I have just bought the 30 quid Pioneer SSL100 speakers to go with my sub and an open box Yammy RXV375 for £130, with 12 months warranty.

I may have to sacrifice chunky speaker cables, in order to hide them, but even this basic set up will no doubt blow the sound bar out of the water.

My Profile and Signature

Hi

I haven't been on for a while and I need to change my profile and signature, but can't find anywhere to do it.

Is this feature still available?

Thanks

RE: A quick reminder for people to read the forum rules

I haven`t been on for ages as the proxy at work really struggled with the site for some reason.  On occasion when I did have a read it was a lot more niggly than it used to be but it seems better now.

RJS, I can`t resist this, "falling fowl"?  Cluck, cluck, cluck :)

RE: Warning about AVG 9.0

I have installed MS Security Suite on my desktop as I have just done a new install with Vista.

Once I have finished all my installs and defragged, etc I will do a check with different scanners and see what pops up.

RE: Mobile Phone Manager / Sync Software

Hi

Sorted...I connected the N95 to Nokia PC Suite and exported all contacts as a CSV. I was then able to import that CSV to my SE phone using My Phone Explorer.

Thanks all.
