What was the first dvd released in this country?

Can anyone answer the above? Its for my college work. I want to no what the first film available to everyone on dvd format. Please! :D

Well, according to this article from March 1998, there were a few dozen titles available at launch in this country.

As far as I can remember, players were in the shops long before any discs hit the shelves! So the very first UK releases would have been the DVDs that came free with the Panasonic A100 - there was a Wallace and Gromit one, I think, and Queen`s Greatest Flix or something like that.

Not sure what the first one released in this country was, but the first film put to shiny disc was Twister, well, according to the films trivia page on imdb it was

Nah. It might have been the first to be released in the USA, but it wasn`t the first overall.

According to the rec.video.dvd FAQ (which frankly I trust a lot more than the IMDb!), the first batch of DVD films came out in Japan on 20th December 1996, and included Blade Runner and Eraser.
