Review of Nurses on the Line

    1 / 10

    Introduction

Nurses on the Line is another in that long line of films that were "based on a true story". They say that fact is stranger than fiction, but it`s equally true that fact is often duller than fiction, particularly when it is turned into low-budget made-for-TV films that clog up daytime schedules, or make up most of the output of satellite/cable channel Living.

The one thing that surprises me about this disc is that they haven`t tried to cash in on the fact that it actually stars Jennifer Lopez in a very early role. She looks rather different, but this was made 8 years ago, before she was probably set upon by "image consultants" and the like...

    Video

A made for TV movie brings with it a made for TV picture, with a reasonably good full frame transfer (described on the box as "PAL 4:3 Academy", which is a rather over the top way of saying standard 4:3 TV picture).

At least they made the effort of filming the Mexican jungle in a Mexican jungle, but other than that there`s not very much to interest you visually.

    Audio

A DD2.0 stereo soundtrack, which is just as unremarkable as the visuals. The sound is clear and crisp throughout, and there`s nothing wrong with it, it`s just rather unexciting.

    Features

Very brief biographies, a brief background to the story and some trailers for this and other titles from the studio.

    Conclusion

I`m afraid that fact does indeed prove to be duller than fiction once again. The performances of the cast are reasonable, but you know what`s going to happen and it`s all very predictable and boring. If you susbcribe to satellite/cable channel Living you can probably see this kind of thing all day long. I can`t imagine why you would want to buy it on DVD when there are so many thousands of better DVDs available.

As with other titles from this studio, if you really, really must have it, then at least it`s a budget title so you won`t have to save up for too long to buy it.

    Avoid. Please.
