    Review for Baywatch Season 3

    5 / 10

Everyone remembers where they were when they first saw that hourglass shape in the red one piece swimsuit. It was six o'clock on a Saturday afternoon and suddenly she ran on to the screen. It would be sexist and insulting to say that 99.99% of men watched Baywatch to see Pamela Anderson bounce around, but it would be difficult for me to explain why else I was watching it. Even now, nearly twenty years on I can't imagine why I would be watching this show. It's certainly not the acting or the gripping storylines.

Baywatch by its third season was a show that was just sort of there. No one was really paying attention. That was until Miss Anderson appeared on the screen as CJ Parker and all of a sudden we were all interested in what was happening in the lives of these lifeguards and there was no way we would be missing a single episode. Watching these all I now have to really ask myself why this was?

The thing that really hurts this show is the lack of extras. I'm not saying a commentary or featurettes would make the show any more watchable, but it would certainly make it more worthwhile. Instead all we have is the shows and although I would like to say they stand up over time, they don't. In fact, watching the first few and I cannot understand (other than the obvious) why anyone was watching this show. The plots (what there is of them) seem to be the same stories recycled again and again and though they try and develop the range of characters they have, I didn't really connect with any of them. Not enough to actually care what they were up to.

That being said, if you are looking for a nostalgia kick or just for some inane entertainment with a huge dollop of cleavage and slow motion bouncing, then this is definbitely the show for you. If you have just finished watching Lost and you are looking for your next intellectual show, you might want to steer away from this beach.
