Review of Tweenies Animal Friends & Party Games Laughs & Giggles

    6 / 10

    Introduction

The BBC are improving their DVD output gently - with their huge annual output, it must be difficult to decide what to release as a DVD and what to leave for another day (not to mention their huge back catalogue). So it`s nice to see a few DVDs being released specifically for children along with their guaranteed money spinners (comedy shows, anything with dinosaurs or planets in it, Dr Who).

For those that don`t know, the Tweenies are odd beings in the Tellytubby mould but aimed for the next age level and are apparently pretty successful, according to my source of children’s opinions.

The DVD itself purports to be two discs in one, both consisting of a set of songs and games that can be played individually, sequentially or randomly.

    Video

Pretty good - the BBC is filming more and more output in 16:9 now and this includes children’s television. So we get a good, anamorphic widescreen transfer, lots of bright, crisp colours and no jaggies - perfect for the kids!
The menus are animated and fun.

    Audio

Dolby Digital 2.0 - i.e. generic stereo, but that`s fine - perfectly clear and excellent for those upcoming Christmas parties.....

Watch out though, the menus have a tune on a loop that`s short enough to drive you barmy if your kids start discussing what to watch next.....

    Features

No extra features are offered; you can watch each `disc` sequentially, choose a specific song or game or obtain a random one.

    Conclusion

Great for kids and therefore great for their parents as it should keep them occupied long enough for you to relax and stop praying for the start of the next term......
