Windows 7 RIP

Anyone still stubbornly using it? :)

I think it got its final patch yesterday, for a critical crypto bug.

Nope. Still got an XP machine though, which has software I can't use on anything else.

Still have W7 on my main PC with W10 on my lappy, Prefer W7 by miles, and have no intention of upgrading the tower in the next couple of months. I'll just make sure everything the other 7 security programs (which aren't giving up on W7) are regularly backed up. Annie does most of our financial stuff on her tablet anyway.

Yep. GTAV won't run on the laptop (although it manages to run Portal 2 very easily, which I wasn't expecting. Not bad for a £250 cheapie). I installed all the pending updates last night so It's OK for a bit. If I must upgrade it wouldn't be any later than the end of feb.

If only they hadn't tried to force the OS on me without my knowledge or permission, as well as talking up my metered bandwidth without asking, as well as using a quarter of the program specifically for tracking & telemetry software, I'd have installed it years ago.

I built a new rig at Christmas and finally moved over to Win10. I was an ardent Win7 user holding out until the last second, but it's not that bad, tbh. Once you spend an hour or so getting rid of the crap and making it look the way you want (which I also had to do with Windows 7), it's a perfectly fine OS.

I'm not even sure it counts as that.  It's the worst kept secret that you can upgrade for free and activate and get a digital W10 license from Microsoft.  Officially they may say it costs £120 (to appease people who pay) but it is basically still free and always has been.  I imagine googling free windows 10 upgrade would give many options.  Download media creation tool and Windows and do an in place upgrade.
