iPhone 6S battery problems

RJS (undefined) posted this on Tuesday, 22nd November 2016, 19:10

For the last 2 months my iPhone 6S has been dying when the battery is about 25%, then it crept up to about 45%. Contacted O2's support, started getting the usual hoop-jumping routines (turn it off and on again, reset it to factory defaults), and all that did was make it sit at 1% for over 24 hours before dying, and then going back to it's old ways.

Seems I'm not alone:

Got an appointment with an O2 Guru on Sunday, which I suspect will be another waste of my time.

No Apple Store on the IoW :( So I'd have to send it away and be without a phone. Will try O2 first, then an Apple Store next time I'm in London.

Went to see the O2 Guru, and as expected, O2 completely refusing to deal with the issue, going, "sorry out of warranty, not our problem" despite the fact I am still paying for the phone for another year.

But found this page from a bit of googling:
https://www.apple.com/uk/support/iphone6s-unexpectedshutdown/

Filled in my serial number, and one quick Apple chat later, they are going to arrange a repair. Currently low on parts atm, guess they are doing lots, but they are going to call me back next Friday to arrange it.

Whatever online support systems and staff O2 use for their chat system, they are really poor. You can tell their level of English is poor, that anything they suggest isn't going to help and will waste your time, and O2 really don't care that much about their customers compared to say John Lewis or Amazon.

But Apple's is very good, I'm impressed with it!

Apple rang me back, 8 days turnaround by post or if I book an appointment in an Apple store, while I wait, so will do the latter next time I'm on the mainland (xmas week).

In an effort to gather more information, we are including additional diagnostic capability in an iOS software update which will be available next week.

Surprised they weren't doing that already in this day and age!

The update reiterates on the cause of the issue -- some batteries were exposed to "controlled ambient air" during manufacturing -- while also expanding the scope of the affected range of customers facing the problem.

Wonder what that means...

Very similar to normal air, just a bit more downbeat and chill
