RE: [VIDEO] Google, you're internet stalker
The future is here with Poundland today, saw it for myself in my local store.
.
Poundland is rolling out self-sevice automated tills to reduce the number of staff required in each store, to keep items at a pound.
Now it only takes one superviser staff member to four tills, as the public is going to have to deal with these machines, even older folks have no option as there is not going to be a human till counter.
It seems they can no longer afford to pay minimum wage staff, and the forecast that the service industry which has around 20% of the working population, is going to be decimated by automation and A.I. in this decade and beyond, and its starting right now.
God help us all.
RE: [VIDEO] Google, you're internet stalker
actually, that could be good for some customers, as I get put off by the long queues where they have 2 people, but 4 tills, so if there's a real person on 1, and the other 3 are automated, that's great as a customer, not for jobs.
my elderly next door neighbour never uses the self service in sainsbury's, queues up, and when the staff ask if he like to be shown the self service he tells them he'd rather not as he doesn't want to put ppl out of a job :)
the other big win i find with self service is a good way of getting rid of shrapnel :)
not sure what this has to do with google stalking? pound land don't have a loyalty card to track your spending habits do they?

RE: [VIDEO] Google, you're internet stalker
Well it was actually queuing up longer as the old folks did not know how the machine worked, like where to put the money in and change out.
As for putting it in this thread, sorry, just did not want to start a new one.

Insurance companies wanted to use Facebook to see your "likes" and "follows" to adjust your premium according to your interests! In their eyes I guess natural progression from black box some drivers CHOOSE to put in their cars.

What do a collection of wooden spoons, a newly installed rain gutter, and a dialysis machine have in common? They’d all look fantastic on your next smartphone case according to my-handy-design — a bot on Amazon that’s currently going hog wild with algorithmically generated product designs.

Facebook AI invents its own language:

Facebook had to pull the plug on an artificial intelligence system that its researchers were working on because things got out of hand. The AI did not start shutting down computers worldwide or something of the sort, but it stopped using English and started using a language that it created.

Google Chrome starts testing a built-in ad blocker on Windows

or at least controls which adverts you can and cannot see ;)

Earlier this year, Google was rumored to be working on a built-in ad blocker for its Chrome browser. The new ad blocker inside Chrome won’t block every ad you see on the web — instead, it’ll only block ads that are considered intrusive and go against the standards set by the Coalition for Better Ads.
I suppose they know it makes sense from their point of view, their own blocker which allows some through, is better than installing software which stops all adverts
