NTL 20MB?

skirpy (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 7th June 2007, 22:21

Hi,

I have just been upgraded to 20mb in the past week and am very disappointed with the connection, when downloading torrents on the 10mb sevice i always got up to 1mb+ all the time.

Now i am on 20mb and i dont ever get past 555kbps....there is now way i am paying £37 a month for half the connection i was getting before the upgrade.

Anybody else got problems with this service?

Might you be triggering the traffic-management? Only takes 23minutes of downloading at full-speed to trigger it.

I`ve recently been upgraded to 20mb

The reason why you`re only getting 555kbps is because VM throttle the bandwidth between 4pm till midnight on weekdays. You can only downlod max 3Gb before the throttling takes place

I`ve logged in from home and am current downloading on utorrent and getting 2.3MB/s which is awesome considering I`m dowloading at 10Gb torrent :)

PS one handy tip is to reduce your upload speed and don`t let it max out which improves download speeds

Thanks for the replies!

Think it might be time to change to a cheaper service.

Tell that to VirginMedia - they might well cut you a deal rather than lose you completely.

I did, and in effect I don`t pay for my 10 meg, although they still haven`t upgraded Bristol to 20 :(

Bloody August! That`s when Bristol gets the 20 meg service. We`re always on the end of the roll-out schedule. Would eb nice if they mixed it up a bit.

Dont know anything about 20MB but they have given me the `mid` connection or `medium` (not sure) for £10 a month for a year as I was going to leave cos they kept over billing me.....

Might pay to argue more. I have the XL broadband service, L TV and M phone for £33.50...
