Cable question

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 27th August 2019, 14:17

When buying an HDMI cable some time ago I remember the idea of those gold plated, diamond encrusted, pay me a fortune ones being completely debunked and your average Asda's own coming up just as good.

How come then that there seems to be a definite difference between a normal USB lead and one of Samsung's own fast charge ones.
The Samsung one charges at three times the rate, maybe more, than a normal one.

My guess is the usb-c supported Samsung is geared towards that rather than the 'standard' usb3.

is that plugged into the wall, or plugged into a pc/laptop?

it takes over twice as long for my phone to charge when plugged into the laptop as it does plugged into the wall, but I don't think that's to do with cable.

No, there's definitely a difference for USB cables and it's mainly the current supported. Use the 'wrong' one and your phone will literally tell you it's charging more slowly... You will need 2 or 3A support from the cable.
Get one that says it supports fast charging.
My Huawei phone charges ridiculously quick - but only with the right charger and cable. Something mad like a 40W charger I think.
HDMI is just dealing with a digital signal - or not..
