Christmas Songs You`re NOT Sick Of

Call me an old softie, but Seasonal music is part of what gets me in the mood for Xmas. I agree with the Doc that some of the Xmas pop songs start to grate when they play them mid-August, but there are some Xmas songs that I look forward to.

Last Chrimbo I was very taken with Howard Goodall`s arrangement of Gaudete!. I love the cheesy Xmas songs from Christmas Vacation or John Williams` score for Home Alone with its variations on the Carol of the Bells.

Or how about Leslie Bricusse`s wildly overblown 1970 Scrooge with Albert Finney?

I still love Slade. ;) Actually a fair few of them mentioned (including the first) in the thread I like.

I reckon even the most miserable of our Scrooges would miss the Xmas standards if everybody stopped playing them.

It`s only a matter of time before some cultural apologist working for a London borough bans all references to X*** for fear of insulting minorities.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

TBH it was one of my favourite Christmas songs, but I will not ever play it again.

In the early 60s I bought a few Christmas singles & LPs. I still like playing them to this day. They are `The Phil Spector Christmas LP.`  `Brenda Lee Christmas` with Rocking around the Christmas Tree on (I also bought the 45). `Jim Reeves Twelve songs of Christmas` & The Elvis Presley `Christmas LP`. It goes off subject a little but The Beatles always released an LP at Christmas, obviously non Christmas songs, & I always think of Christmas when playing those tracks.
